This brings up an interesting question about cloning. If we clone an individual, such as in the Bobiverse series of books, you have a new person that looks and perhaps even acts the same as the original. However, we as humans might have a tendency towards treating the clone as we would the original. This might lead to a devaluation of the original person if we can always simply grow a new copy. In the case of the Von Neumann probes, that would be fine, until the probes AIs become sentient beings at which point the devaluation of the original becomes a threat to their longevity. Even as humans we have a similar risk as we can always grow new plumbers, electricians, bricklayers, engineers, etc.Have we reached this point in society that we have devalued the experienced people over newly trained “characters” who are stronger and potentially better, stronger and more capable than our ancestors? In the case of Groot, were we more willing to allow his sacrifice to protect others comfortable in the knowledge that a new Groot could be created for future films?
