Since 2008 HP has pioneered a new wide format printing technology that we've all come to know as HP Latex. Over the past decade Latex printing has exploded from a niche eco-friendly player to the market leader in the 54" to 64" outdoor durable space. Over the years a few rivals have tried to offer competing Latex printers, with Mimaki, Ricoh, and others taking swings at the champ. This year a new contestant has entered the ring with Epson's launch of their Resin SureColor R5070 platform. In this video we're going to compare the Epson Resin and HP Latex printers so that you can make an informed choice for your business.

Just purchased a 5070 2 months ago. Have an HP 365 and Roland VS640. I will admit the Epson is the smartest best built printer. Pantones hit their mark. Awesome print quality. Automated maintenance and head strike aversion. Been around printers since Scotchprint Electrostatic and this machine has driven in a new standard

In your best estimation, do you foresee a newer version of the 5070 down the line that separates overcoat from the ink formulation like HP did moving from the 3 series to the 700/800/630? I have concerns that since this is a 1st generation resin printer that Epson may not have learned from HP's initial faux pas of including overcoat in the ink for scratch protection and thus created something that won't bond to overlaminates longterm just like HP did with the gen 3 inks on the 300 series printers. Have you done any pull tests of laminate on resin prints? Is it as strong a bond as solvent prints or latex 4 series inks with the overcoat off? Sorry for the wall of questions!

It would had been great if you had printed something out so we can see the differences first hand.

A few years ago we looked at Epson S40600 and the HP equivalent. We ended up with the Epson purely based on color accuracy. When it is time to upgrade we will be evaluating Resin.

I would also be interested in how the Epson prints on backlit translucent vinyl compared to the latex inks? This has been a challenging product type to produce with good results.

How does the Epson ink hold up to the torture's of vehicle wrapping? How far can we stretch the material before the color shifts? Will the color come back with heat?

Most important features that are missing from this video are: 1) Epson use variable dot ink tech starting from 3.5pl, when HP use single ink dot of 10pl, and the second is resolution where Epson have 1200x2400dpi and HP have 1200x1200dpi.

As an HP L570 user for the last 4 years, I'd say that it would be hard for Epson to be any WORSE than HP for color accuracy and consistency.

Anyone have experience with printing on backlit fabric, like Pongs Artist Mambo?

Had a hp570 for 6 years. If i print anything then the same job the next month. It just won't be the same color. I've heard only good things about epsons colors being the same even a year later. i'm switching to a epson R5070 and a S80600L

Why do all these explainer videos require you to play it at 1.5x speed to get it to normal listening speed?

On the Signs101 forum, I read a lot of delamination problems on Latex printed wraps. Does Epson's resin have a similar issues?

I want sample prints and tests give me something to sell to my clients.

Any word on delamination? Is this a common issue in the latex world?
