I love Fuji cameras for many reasons and for a long time. That is until I struggled with the Fuji X-Pro3. This video covers my X-Pro3 kit as well as the main reason I parted company with this Fuji camera.

The X-Pro3 is a fantastic camera. I use the flip down screen to sit at a table and review a days worth of shooting, also taking shots from waist level is a joy for street work. It’s built well, feels great in the hand and the OVF and EVF work very well. As someone else said you can easily view your shot with a function button and the EVF. Plus the screen is protected. And no I don’t like the fully articulating screen of the XT4. Honestly, the X-Pro3 is the best camera I’ve ever used.

I love this camera. The major problem you have with it is easily solved by using the EVF and the programmable buttons. It can be programmed so that you merely have to press a button (your choice which one) and the playback shows in the EVF.

Do people spend more time making camera and lens choices / watching reviews or doing actual photography? Too many options. Good for manufacturers, always something better right around the corner.

I sold most of my Fuji gear, but did hang on to my X-Pro2. Simply because it is such a great little camera. I never liked the X-Pro3 because of the rear LCD and the gimmicky sub screen. If Fuji made three little changes to the X-Pro3, it would be the perfect street camera for me: 1) change the OVF back to dual magnification, 2) make the ISO dial just like the X-100V and 3) make the rear LCD just like the X-100V. I prefer that to the fully articulated LCD found on the X-T4 because the X100V LCD stays ‘within the camera’ for overhead and hip shots and it is beautifully flat with the rest of the camera body. Simple changes would make a great product.

Good criticism about some of the ergonomic difficulties the screen presents, particularly with a tripod. I will say, though, that many of the gripes with the xp3 could be solved by customizing a button to playback images in the evf. I, in fact, have found that faster than looking at the screen. When I'm shooting and want to check a shot: *shutter; front button to review focus, DOF, etc..; 1/2 second or so later; *shutter. This isn't for everyone and some would rather look at the screen, so fair enough, but I had similar feelings until I tried this method, now I would never go back. Cheers!

There are Arca Swiss plates which allow the back screen to fold down 180 degrees. They add a little grip extension, too. The perfect display for me would be a tilt up / down display. Don't like fully articulated ones, at least not on cameras I tend to use for street shots.

What are your thought months later. Do you miss it. Also why not use both cameras? Budget allowing. I’m shooting xpro 3 and XT4 and depending on what I’m doing use either or. A Luxery i know by many photographers have more than one body. Best of both worlds.

Thanks for that. What bag were you using? I’m an x-pro 2 user and I’m waiting for the XP4 cos I’m hoping they’ll improve and enlarge the viewfinder, ramp up the megapixels and change the ISO dial. The screen is not an issue for me as I use the EVF already and not the rear screen.

The small lens f.stop is 2.8 to 4.0 😉 Great video 👍

I my thoughts are exactly like yours. I bought the X-Pro3 thinking I was going to love and hated it for the same exact same reason you don't like it.

Funny, but only yesterday I was wondering when your next video would be… I love watching them, your enthusiasm is infectious. Even when you are dissing something! Though now you’ve made me want a Fuji again. And my GAS is probably second only to yours!

But, one moan, and sorry for this, the video was so bright (visually; in ‘gain’ I think it might be called) that it was almost painful to watch on my tv? Maybe an exposure drop?

A 75-300 equivalent zoom is perfect for street photography? That’s not Street Photography, that’s taking pictures of things on the street. If you need to constantly chimp, which apparently you do, you can hit the play button and see your pictures in either EVF or OVF. The camera comes that way. You don’t have to program a function button to do that. The flip down screen is mainly for waist level or overhead shooting. Or taking a break, sitting down with a cup of coffee or lunch and reviewing photos. This is a street photographer’s camera. It is definitely not for you.
