what does it mean when the particles between adjacent nodes are in phase? and don't the particles travel fully down until it reaches their maximum displacements

I am slightly confused by the 180 degrees out of phase part surely that would mean the reflected wave would always cancel the incoming wave and so it will always be destructive interference?

Incorrect.
When the maximum displacement interferes with a point with zero displacement, it produces an antibody in the resultant wave.
I say this is incorrect. @1.27
Correct me if I am wrong.
