In this video, we explain how Social Security benefits work for widows. Spousal social security benefits can be some of the most difficult to understand parts of Social Security. Determining the benefits you can receive when your spouse passes away depends on the length of your marriage and the benefit amount you and your spouse were eligible for.

As an elderly widow, I was informed by my tax preparer that I was now classified as "single" with a tax bracket of 22%. I didn't choose to be "single"; I'm a widow. I'm paying 22% and can't itomize while mega corporations are paying zero, zip, nada. What a ripoff for poor widows!

This is financial advice and I never give financial advice: DONT LEAVE DURING THE BEAR. If you don’t want to invest…learn. If you don’t want to learn…build. If you don’t want to build observe. DO SOMETHING…other than leave. There is so much opportunity here. Take advantage!

Social Security is important for many seniors, but it’s also crucial to plan for retirement with smart investments. Diversifying your investments helps grow wealth over time. It’s never too early to start saving and investing for a secure future. I'm 63 and my husband is 65. We’re both retired with over $3 million in net worth and no debt. We live frugally and earn monthly passive income, which makes our early retirement possible.

You explained it so much better than anyone! I retired at 65 on a widows pension and SS informed me when I am going to reach 70 which will be in about 1.5 years to then switch over to mine. I will gain quite a bit.
I am so glad you are passing this info onto woman that are always afraid to ask. Luckily my SS agent made me aware of this. My ex passed away and I received most of his benefit.

Love your presentation style. You get the info about the topic quickly and to the point. Other videos do a lot of extra blah, blah, blah. Your visuals are so helpful too.

Inflation, bank collapse, severe drought in the agricultural belt, recession, food shortages, diesel fuel and heating oil shortages, baby formula shortages, available automobile shortages and prices, the price of living place. <It's all coming together and it could lead to a real disaster towards the end of this year (or sooner). With inflation currently at about 6%, my primary concern is how to maximize my savings/retirement fund of about $300k which has been sitting duck since forever with zero to no gains.

This information is exactly correct. I’m doing this exact thing. I retired at 60 taking my deceased ex husband’s benefit and will switch to my full benefit at 70.

I’ve been working and paying into Social Security for over 40 years, and there’s no way I’m waiting any longer to take it. I’m grabbing it early—might as well take the sure thing. At this point, I’m all about investing in myself and putting money into the market. Over the years, I’ve learned that building real wealth comes from making smart investments.

I see. So first they penalize me for being a housewife and my job was raising my children, then they penalize me because my husband died at 62 and I was 50. Now I'm 56, kids are grown, I was only ever really a homemaker with not much work experience and now struggling with this life change on my own while they make me wait 10 years to get 70% of what my husband paid in.

This works both ways. Men and women. I told my step father and he was surprised my mom's was much higher than his. He was 22 in navy and 20 civil service.

Why can't we as a widow, get both social securitys, the money does not belong to the government, but to the working people of America, this would sure help out seniors, instead them going back to work at their age to make ends meet. I have been drawing off my husbands SS, they said to wait till I was 70, and I would get more out of mine. Well, husband just passed away, i took his full amount which was higher than mine, I am still working too, so I will never see a penny of my social security, and I am still paying into it too. And another question, where does that money go, that I will never see?

Hey, love your info and honesty. I had a good friend die at 53 and know of many others that have passed away at 62. Yep, it is just all to short.

The thought of retirement makes me cry. My apologies to everyone who have retired/filing social security during this time after putting in all those years of work just to lose everything to a problem you weren't to blame for.it's especially difficult for people who are retired.

This was very informative. I finally got accurate information from Social Security but I was told several different things before I did. My husband passed away last October at 68 from brain cancer. I just turned 60 so I'm trying to hold out as long as possible collecting widow's benefits. Again this was very informative thank you

This is the most informative video I’ve found on what my spouse gets if I were to pass away. Thank you

You came so close to answering my question. What if one collects SS benefits at 62 and spouse dies at 70, spouse earned more benefit at FRA how much of an increase could there be? Couldn’t tell from our chart. Thanks for the info!
