Wait, you said it was the only spell with no deadzone. If I remember correctly, Scatter Shot had no deadzone either.
Also, it DOES heal you on kill, even if you are BM.

I've been trying to remember a protadin WOTLK ability that worked a bit strangely ( I have not been able to find the name, and I think the icon looked like tiny judgement set pauldrons?) The ability as I recall (might be recalling incompletely/incorrectly) would not taunt, but redirect the threat table of up to 3 mobs targeting the party member you cast the ability on. This was BOSS in getting our mage out of trouble, and as I recall the cooldown was either 30 sec or 45 sec, as opposed to 2 mins for a hand of protection. Ring any bells?
