I followed this and also have a chisel just sitting next to the rock while hammering. Got enough for 1/10000 part of my long driveway. I’ll post an update maybe 100 years from now.

So about 30 years of this and I can make myself a driveway??? Ok ok, all jokes aside, I might be the only one here to try this. I have a lot of rock and time. I need gravel for underneath the base blocks for my budget cabin build. I thought about going to the river but I might get in trouble for that. I also appreciate your safty gear!!!👍

well i came over this random video and desided to try it. I must say it was surprisingly therapeutic and rather easy to crush rocks to dust. Had to use a sledgehammer on solid rocks and it took me 1 hour to get a full bucket. The "gravel" got way to sharp to be used on a road but nice filler anyways.

That does work, you may want to use a cold chisel for rocks, instead of a wood chisel though. Personally, having just spread 5 yards of gravel around my place today....I prefer to just go to the gravel pit and have them load it into my truck! :)

Dead simple strategy. Well this gives you the freedom to select rocks based on color and crystalline state. Also, rock hammers are not that expensive and they have a chisel end built in. Flip it over whack flatter rocks to make them crack. Flip hammer back over and you can size the pebbles with firm but light taps

A sledge hammer would be much quicker. And that looks like sandstone, which is pretty soft.
