A small remark: gold skeletons doesn't take damage in water. They just have lower defense being rusted

Firebombs work extremely well against the gold skeletons. You can get a quick cycle by firebomb, gun, spam slash, repeat.

7:10 if a volcano is going off at your destination, use grubs and fish for devilfish while you wait. gives yo something to do, you'll be right there to see the volcano stop and go right on in and it will help for hunter's call

Ghost fleets are always rewarding (except with your progressing with a open sloop and a reaper comes in randomly and completes your voyage for you AHEM) but yeah its pretty easy
