Hillstream Loach Climbs Glass During Water Change

A Reticulated Hillstream Loach climbs the glass in an aquarium during a water change.

It seems to have been triggered by the downward-flowing water from my refill hose!

Hillstream loaches are found in fast-flowing streams in Asia. They use their special pectoral fins to attach firmly onto surfaces not only to graze on algae and biofilm but also to avoid being carried away by the swift currents! They have the ability to climb up out of water and travel upstream to pools and rivulets above where they originally came! These fish are so interesting!

They follow the water current, that's why they are called hillstream loach.

My Loach almost climbed out of the tank - Thankfully did so while I was eating dinner and staring at the tank so managed to save him but I have had to swap to a tank with a Lid since then! Didn't know they were so adventurous!

Yepp, I can confirm that hillstream loaches love to swim right into the bubble stream of the water hose during water change. Not sure whether they would like such conditions all the time though. Any experience? I mean, yes, they live in high flow rivers, but they rest, spawn and breed in less turbulent areas of the river (tank).
