WOW... threatening someones life over a manga is a bit much. Maybe people do need to start going out more.

My question is : when aren’t fans complaining???

I think the reason as to why Saitama is less savage in the manga and more idealistic is because of his conversation with King. I don't remember if the same conversation happened in the webcomic but essentially King reprimanded Saitama for assuming that his level for being a hero was capped due to his overwhelming strength, remarking that Saitama's perception of being a hero was shallow. After this conversation you see Saitama reprimand people a lot more instead of immediatly beating people down, if he still chose to act the same this conversation with King would be pointless.

While Saitama has taken up being a hero as a hobby I think the manga emphasises better what kind off damage this mentality could bring to not only himself but also to his surroundings. Such as him assuming Genos was fine going out alone when he was nearly killed by Elder Centipede, it was King who pointed out that Genos could be in trouble, leading to Saitama intervening.

The best example of this is of course with Garou, just like in the webcomic Saitama didn't take him seriously at all in the beginning and while he did try to talk some sense into him he mostly fooled around instead of ending the fight as quickly as possible.

We all saw what happened afterward: Saitama lost EVERYTHING. Everyone he could have saved died and his last connections to his humanity were severed, all because he didn't take the responsibility of being a Hero seriously enough.

While Saitama's lax attitude is very funny and does a good job of parodying other IP's I think him striving to be a better hero while also being an average dude is what makes him compelling.

TLDR: While I love Saitama's speech to Garou and prefer the original webcomic ending of the arc I think the changes made to him in the manga make him a more compelling character.

I personally cannot get enough side character development and love in stories. The one complaint I have with 90% of battle manga is the main character development compared to side character development. I can’t argue against this too much because so many people absolutely love the contrary but its always been the reason OPM is one of my favorite mangas of all time.

Isn't One involved in the rewrites in the manga? If anything webcomic complainers should appreciate how One and Murata have evolved otherwise flat characters with more nuance and depth. It shows One evolving as a writer, on top of him evolving as a artist as well. Comparisons to shonen tropes be dammed, it's all about having fun and enjoying a good story with well thought out characters.

The people who thought Garou was genuinely going to kill Tareo in the webcomic completely missed the point.
He was bluffing to get the heroes to fight him, he wasn’t actually serious. Saitama points that out himself.

I think something many people fail to take into account is that ONE actually works closely with Murata to change the story here and there and keep it on track

There is a mistake here. Garou wasn't going to kill Tareo in the webcomic. He was bluffing and Saitama pointed it out when he told Garou that Tareo was in the opposite direction to where Garou was posturing about while repeatedly egging on the heroes that he was going to kill him. It was posturing and bluffing in order to get reactions out of the heroes.

The manga tuned down the edge and made things more clear, but inherently Garou's character hasn't changed. His entire motivation has always been to destroy the injustice he perceived as a child when he was shit on when he pointed out that the villain always losing by design was unfair.

I don’t understand anyone who wishes saitama was more cold hearted. We all know he isn’t really the best hero when looking at face value. He is always late and doesn’t go out of the way to do anything that isn’t directly in front of him, of course it all works out because there is actual great heros aside from him. Yet saitama always seems to help out in the manga one way or another, giving generic yet great advice that helps people, or just existing in the way he does giving some people better meaning. Both of these examples are shown with people like tatsumaki or genos, even people like garou have had their choices and ideals swayed because of saitama. I personally think its a great addition of heroic ability giving him more than just overwhelming power to solve the worlds issue like allmight or superman. I think saitamas character would be far less appealing and have a far lesser impact on the manga if he was more cold hearted or even ruthless.

P.S. I’d love to here anyone else’s opinion on this

I think the powerscaling is awesome, but I agree with the garou not being violent enough

Him saying "I'll beat the shit out of you with 1 hand" was cold but the "you can never beat me" was probably one of the most badass things I've ever read in a manga

I honestly don't care if anything is tropey as long as it's good and done well.

Overdone is not always equal bad. There is a reason these tropes are overused in the first place.

In terms of one-dimensional character, I don't believe Tatsumaki is like that at all since she been into many battles, got character arcs and have a better backstory than most of the heroines from MHA series. Those girls are the true one-dimensional characters since they barely do anything at all. Have a little shipping moments won't ruin her character at all because it is needed to show her girly side more. Ex: Noelle Silva from Black Clover got more focus on her character and getting stronger while she has some shipping moments with the Mc.

TBH I don't see OPM as a gag series anymore. I see it as its own individual series. It has its own very interesting world, characters with ranges of complexity, and interesting power systems. It may have a couple flaws, but I still enjoy every development in the series.

You got something very wrong, in the webcomic Garou was never serious about killing Tareo, that's why he was pointing somewhere else when he said that, it's basically the same but in the manga they made it more clear that he always cared about him and Tareo was the reason Garou didn't fully turn into a monster. In my opinion the more subtle it is the better, but there's a lot of people that end up not getting the message, you are a clear example, so that's why they have to make stuff more clear in the manga.

Truthfully the only real issue I had with the manga is the end of the fight with garou. In the webcomic, there was this huge moment with garou explaining the corruption of heroes to everyone after being defeated. In the manga, they mostly took that away. Other than that though, I don’t really have any issues with the manga. One still works with murata on the manga storyline. So the story isn’t being changed against what One originally wanted it to be. It’s still One controlling where the story goes. Obviously he’s not the only one working on the story now, but he has a very large say in what will and won’t happen in the manga. And this is a personal opinion, but I enjoy Saitama in the manga. I would be totally fine with him being cold hearted like in the webcomic. But I like his writing. Every other anime character usually has to fight throughout the story to defeat the enemy by getting a power up. But Saitama is fighting with the fact that he never will have to go through that struggle. He still has that carefree attitude of not caring what other think and just doing what he wants. But he’s not just a completely cold hearted person. Yet he’s also different from any other Mc because his “struggle” isn’t a power thing but a mental thing. Which I just think is kinda cool.

You know what's even funnier?
The author from OPM himself seems to be starting to feel like his own fanboy
Now OPM only focuses on showing how strong the bald man is and the story development is shown more than other side characters

Both version of the story stick with the side of saitama’s meaning

The webcomic touches more with his non human side of how powerful he is that he can’t sympathize with other and is very cold

While the manga/murata version 100% shows more of saitama human side and how king and his friend are helping get more in touch with his humanity even so that genos death show one of the must human thing (anger)

Saitama at his core is looking for a powerful opponent yes but also looking for something to help him with his depression
