Breaking Down: Cyril - Fire Emblem: Three Houses Unit Analysis

When people say that on Maddening difficulty stats matter far less than the characters toolkit, Cyril is probably one of the best examples in the whole game.

He's such a lowkey brilliantly made character in context of the series as as a whole. For a series vet, your seeing a character who have Veteran and likely go "oh so hes garbage like every other unit with this before"(admitedly Mozu's pretty neat) and then not only he starts fairly strong since he can turbo getting PBV, and he have so many things that kinda reads "how to make good Three Houses character"(PBV, Vengeance, Boon in Axe Bow Flying Horse Lance). He ended up doing a much better job than every other character of his kind are supposed to do despite his average stats

Damn Cyril really got the best set of boons and banes in the game, if they wanted him to be perfect they could've given him an Auth boon but a neutrality is fine imo

He also makes really good use of the corpse class

Aptitude is factored into his growths when unrecruited, it's just that he has bad bases and commoner growths don't help him at all. You can tell because he gets 1 strength almost every 2 levels on his 40% growth, vs. the 20% growth that gets 1 strength every ~4 levels (Marianne for example).

For chapter 5 you can also use the quest battles to get him HP+5 very quickly. If you have C professor level and buy the statue bonus for doubled class EXP, you can get him HP+5 in the battle where you unlock the merchants really easily. On Blue Lions I usually put him on Cav Dimitri, and on Golden Deer I stick him to Byleth for that quest battle.

Armor Knight Certification also boosts Cyril's HP to 30, which can make a difference for some vengeance calcs I guess. Really happy you talked about Bow Knight line for him. I know people ignore it, but it's really interesting to plan for.

I'd say that Cyril would be one of the one's who could make at least any use of Desperation if you end up going flying or assassin or something

Great video again. I’m using Cyril for the first time in VW after hearing you talk about him and I’m getting a lot out of him. Everything you said aligns with my experience. I opted for the grounded option for better battalions and a guard adjutant. Though mostly I opted for this because I have so many other fliers who are in greater need of the better battalions. Wrath-Vantage Claude really helped with HBD, by the way. That was also based on your recommendation. Thanks!

I love all three of my Vengeance characters. Especially Cyril and Dedue because of their high HP.

I gotta say, im big on team wyvern for cyril. Flight really is just the best, and you can afford to give him a weaker flying battallion since vengeance is so strong.

PBV is great early on, but i find his strength just isnt enough to keep up with killing late game. The best late game use i find for it is on fliers, and being able to fly himself really helps get to the enemy fliers to unload on them.

I don't like him as much as Bernadetta and Dedue as a Vengeance user though he's not bad I just find the others easier to work with.

PBV though is and always will be my good old reliable.

I like to use him as a 11th or 12th member. Since aptitude makes it fairly easy for him to keep up even when slightly underleveled and point blank volley and his affinity for flying makes it easy to find something useful for him to do without putting him in too much danger. I usually have him take out stragglers that my main combat units just barely can't finish off.
