..and here I am, a black Brazilian with African ancestors due to the Portuguese slavery trade. It is good to show why there are black people in Brazil. Believe me, some people are still surprised when they get to know this fact.

I remember my great-grandmother once told me that her mother or grandmother, not sure, was a slave and she was born during a law that was passed freeing all slaver's newborns from 1871 on.

Slavery trade was and still is the main reason behind racism, even after so many centuries. It is high time we moved on.

I will never forget what my dad told me: "Until everyone is free, we are all slaves." So powerful.

It’s been a while since I viewed this channel and I don’t know why, because there’s so many reasons I like it. I love the calm delivery, where the information is the point, not the over excited delivery of the narrator. Likewise, quite often Mike is happy to be off camera and concentrate on showing us images that add to our learning &/or enjoyment. The research is good, and we are left wanting to learn more. Sincere thanks and kudos to all involved with the channel

I lived in a shared house, we had a room going, a very quiet and nervous man moved into the room. He didn't speak any English so I spoke to him and he spoke to me through a phone app. His story brought tears to my eyes.
He was from Romania, he was told that there was a better life in England. As soon as he came into the country he had his passport and all belongings taken, they set him to work washing dishes in a restaurant, he asked for pay and they beat him. His bed was the floor in the kitchen.
Good people finally raided the place and got him and several others out.

the history of slavery may be hard for some, but people need to realize that slavery exists today in parts of the world. Prostitution and drug dealing is slavery, too.

Congratulations Mike. This one made me sick. That on the societal level, slavery could ever be deemed acceptable...that's truly scary. And disgusting.

I remember reading that a southern slave owner was invited to see a plantation in the Caribbean and was horrified at the way slaves were treated there. I can't imagine, and I don't want to, how horrible that must have been.

Incredibly sad. I don't understand how someone could look and see property instead of obviously another person.
