Didn't look like the alcohol got hot enough to start to create the vapors and flames on the ports.

the point of alcohol stove is safety in small enclosed areas like inside a tent car or boat. that's why because the vapors are much safer burns cleaner than other fuels..use this stove safely in small enclosed areas of course make sure you have some ventilation..

Alcohol stoves are safe to use indoors, that's why they use them in boats. Do NOT use white gas in them!!!

Methyl hydrate or wood alcohol, also sold as fondue fuel and gas line anti freeze is the correct fuel. I’ve had mine since 1992, name brand Safesport.

Putting the pot on before the sides light isn’t too bright.... the cold pot draws a lot of the heat away from the side holes and will be very slow to ignite.. it should light within 30 seconds in 35 degree Fahrenheit

Rubbing alcohol is the worst fuel you can use for these stoves. It burns super dirty and it'll stain your cooking stuff permanently

It's not a matter of alcohol stoves vs wood. If you have room in your gear for the fuel, take both. Most alcohol stoves are small enough to pack inside of most wood stoves so this will save space and add minimal weight (for the stove). You'll use the wood stove for most needs but you'll have the alcohol as a backup if it rains or if there are legal restrictions on burning wood, or if you just want to quickly start a short-burning fire.

And you can leave the alcohol stove inside of the wood stove while using it. The wood stove provides a base to keep the alcohol stove level and off combustable surfaces (though this isn't necessary with a model like the Out-d), it acts as a wind shield, and -- depending on how well the two stoves nest -- it can supplement the burning process the same way it does for the wood.

BTW you used WAYYYY too much alcohol. you only use 1 oz. Use little alcohol and it heats up and boils the alcohol in the sides and burns the vapor out the holes...

you can make them out of coke cans, beer cans etc. I have several I made for kicks, and they work, but I bought the little wood stove you reviewed. I used it to heat my patio area while my big propane stove was broken. I love it .

You should only use Ethyl alcohol or Denature alcohol - alkohol based fuel for this little burner and also, if you mix in max 15% water you will have no soot at all.

You filled the stove too much, did not let the jets bloom, then lost heat by putting the pot on top too soon. Just sayin....

great review, will a 5 inch pot fit secured on stands?

I have both, wood burning and alcohol stoves. First of never use rubbing alcohol, is not the best or efficient for your stove, Denatured or even Heet is what you want, no white gas either. As far as wood stoves, they’re great and I own 2 different Fireboxes, however good luck finding fuel in the desert or the beach. Each different stove has its place.

You'r not using that stove correctly

That’s not working at all is it, it’s burning the alcohol not the fumes which should be escaping through the small holes around the lip but because of too much fuel in there it’s unable to heat the alcohol and the lower part of the stove sufficiently to vapourize the fuel.

dude are you using that really good Jonnie Walker Blue to burn?

You keep saying to use rubbing alcohol. Use DENATURED Alcohol for a clean burn. I never have used rubbing alcohol in mine just denatured. I have also used 190 proof Everclear which is a food grade alcohol and you have to get it at a liquor store. The Everclear is a little expensive compared to the others but it is food grade and does not have any of additives in it rendering it non consumable.

Try doing it in dark, to see the flame!

Lol ! Always read the directions first and use ONLY the amount of alcohol stated in the directions...100 mil (7 tablespoons.) 😎
