I cried when he said he grew to be a better person and father and that's more important then ball. That's real bro. Congrats to that brother.

I saw Ronnie play with Kevin in the 90's and Kevin threw an ollie oop pass and it was so high I thought there's no way Ronnies going to catch it and the whole crowd jumped up (And I didn't) and all I saw was his hands grabbing the ball and slamming it in. This man was THE most exciting and naturally talented player I have ever seen to come out of Chicago. He was as a sophomore in high school rated ahead of Kobe Bryant and more exciting to watch as well. This man was way too talented to not play in the NBA. I thought he was more talented than Kevin as well. America missed a real gem in this Chi-town Legend

I was a sophomore in high school in Chicago and I remember the hype surrounding Ronnie Fields and it's a shame what happened and how quickly it fell apart for him. I'm glad he didn't let it drag him further into descent and was able to maintain himself.

Fantastic video and story. I covered Ronnie in the 1995 Nike Invitational in Las Vegas. He came here the same week Kobe Bryant starred in adidas' Big Time Tournament. I've told this story about Ronnie to so many people, and used the same lead as this video, in regards to Michael Jordan. Glad someone took the time to put this together.

Farragut played our HS team in the city semifinals back in 1995. Watching KG and Ronnie was like watching an NBA game back then

Vince Carter said Ronnie was a better and more creative dunker...the counter clockwise 360 windmill Vince did in the dunk contest he got from Ronnie

To hell with professional basketball, he became a great man who helped countless other people, and that's a helluva lot more important than being a great basketball player. Way to go Ronnie!

I saw Ronnie Fields play at Farragut back in 96. He was the most anticipated HS draft pick even as Junior. I remember hearing about that car crash and a lot of ppl thinking that that was the end of B-ball for him. Hats off to Ronnie Fields. Very inspirational story.

Oh Wow! I totally remember him like it was yesterday. I grew up Southside of Chicago and was in Highschool at this time. Super happy to see his career receive some coverage. There is a lot to learn from how things turned out. Great video.

I was at that Illinois Christmas tournament in Peoria IL where Ronnie Fields dunked over that player. It was a local Peoria highschool product 6'5" Sergio McClain. It was a moment where you wanted to hit the remote rewind button to see if you saw what you thought you saw. Thing about it is Ronnie scored over 40 pts. But in the first half showcased passing and long range jumpers, reserving the highlight reel for the 2nd half. He was amazing.

What a class act just goes to show you that you can give up a life of fame and fortune and still touch the hearts and minds of young people with your character and your story. I admire people like this more than anyone else because they overcame adversity and still made an everlasting impact

*Ronnie Fields* was the Most Insanely Gifted, Exciting and Dominant (High School) Player I've ever seen in Person (1995) River City Shootout (Peoria, IL) against A.J. Guyton and Central! What he could do (at his height) was UNBELIEVABLE (but he also was lightning quick) and an Unstoppable Force!

Great video Bro!!!. You told the story about R. Fields just as I remember it. I'm a Chicago native and I attended the high school (Thornton Township 94-98) that beat KG and Ronnie Fields in the state tournament. Ronnie was a BAD dude back then, No one could stop him. That was sad day to hear that he was involved in a car accident and suffered those injuries. After that I honestly thought he would never play bball again.
