Rob Gronkowski has always been hesitant to speak publicly about Aaron Hernandez, his former New England Patriots teammate who was convicted of murder in 2015. In an interview on “CBS This Morning” in 2013, Gronkowski nearly walked off the set after being repeatedly asked about him.

Years later, when asked about it on the “10 Questions with Kyle Brandt” podcast, Gronkowski finally opened up about his experience with Hernandez and the situation that followed the murder investigation.

You know at one time these 2 were def the most undefeatable tight ends matched together like none other. Patriots were on a winning streak thanks to them! It's sad things turned out the way it did with Aaron...

He didn't want to say anything bad about his friend, even though his friend was a killer.

Rob Gronkowski is maybe the greatest tight end of all time, however I’ve always thought, and people have called me crazy for thinking this, that Aaron Hernandez could’ve ended up being the better player. He was faster, more athletically gifted, could move into a wideout position much more seamlessly than Gronk, and could even be used as a running back effectively when given the opportunity. It’s a shame his demons and poor decision making got the better of him, he could’ve been one of the all time greats with multiple Super Bowl rings.

dude if Aaron never had these thug problems, he definitely could've been top 5 TE in football.

Hernandez was a hell of a TE for the Patriots.

Shows what different paths took them - one chose life one chose death. When you choose the street life the gang life the need to defend a “rep” life you’ve chosen misery and death. Friendship love fun and hard work but sadly life sets up different people for different paths and it takes a whole lot of support from the outside and self discipline to refuse to go down that path for some people.

Sucked being a Steelers fan when these two were on the field. Even when we had the best defense in the NFL, there weren't enough players to cover these guys.

Love Rob.. I'm sure Aaron disguised himself very well around them. He now realizes why he didn't go party with the Gronk that much!🙏❤

I always thought him not opening up about their relationship was a good move on his end. The thing about psychos, is…well they are psycho! And who knows, football camaraderie goes deep, perhaps Hernandez was fond enough of Gronk to have some modicum of a relationship or friendship…especially to pen about him and his greatness before his suicide. So what do you do if your Gronk? Trash someone in public who was nothing but decent to you? Or say how you never saw it and how hard it is to believe only for it to be twisted by the public into some personal plea in defense of a killer. The whole thing is beyond tragic, but I certainly learned something from Gronk, no matter how hard you try sometimes saying nothing is better than saying anything at all.

It’s unfair that Gronk has to even answer about this.

I was shocked too. All that time I thought Aaron Hernandez was a Tight End, turns out he was a Wide Receiver.

As much as I hate admitting this, they were an unstoppable combination. I remember some of the exotic formations the Patriots ran when they were both on the field. The rest, is very sad, and hard to believe.

Crazy that normal YouTubers need to have at least an 8 minute video for 15 second unskippable ads but the news gets them for any length video. Seems slightly unfair

Could you imagine if Aaron didn’t become what he did how even more unstoppable the pats would be on offense.

It’s the biggest what if in nfl history how many more sb’s would the pats have with Aaron I would say easily 10
