I know this is an old thread, but maybe someone will read it. I am a 65y/o female who has just had two excruciatingly painful bouts of pancreatitis. I didn't know what this disabling pain was at first, but I googled it and found out. This is all new to me, so I started researching. Both of my incidents were preceded by a large meal. I have found that 6 small, non-fat meals per day, no coffee, and taking Advil and D3 is working for me. I still experience some gurgling and constipation, but not the severe pain I had when I had my attacks. I thought I was dying. Next I will be going to a Gastro doc to see what is going on in there. I read this could have started years ago, with damage being done, before symptoms arise. Hang in there to all who can relate to this story. Hope these tips help.

As a patient with chronic pancreatitis, I seriously wonder what plans are there for pain management with our group in the future, the Government as you know is cutting our pain medications to the point that relief is becoming impossible. Creon and diet is just not enough most of the time. The emergency room staff and most of our Doctors have their hands tyed and at a loss as what to do? What encouragement can you offer for the future? Quality of life has become severely altered since these restrictions have been placed on us. I feel like our options and hope has been taken away. Most of us are enduring extreme pain and it seems like no one has any idea how serious this pain can be. I know that this medication isn't the whole treatment plan but it is an important part when nothing else works or during a bad flareup.
Thank you looking forward to an educated reply.

I wish you could open a center like this in AZ and that the doctors here would be accepting and helpful. Too many people suffering. Online support groups reflect the sheer numbers of those have felt no alternative but to end their lives. Regular doctors who don't specialize really pretty much refuse to treat it. Finding a specialist can be a daunting task. I believe pancreas patient need centers like yours to help address and offer the supports that can overwhelm primary care doctors, and pain centers. I've been told by virtually every pain doctor, or NP, that they don't understand pancreatitis, that they don't know how to treat a belly ache, and that CP is like one of those Trash Can Diagnosis, like Fibromyalgia, where the doctor shuts patient up by giving them a diagnosis that may have a fictitious nature. I was also told the pain doctors only receive about 30 minutes of study learning about what CP is. Problem is clinics like this have a high turnover of providers, and really push injection which cause flares for many. So, to have a doctor who at least be lives your diagnosis is real and cares, is a really nice start!

I have chronic pancreatitis and this is the only drug that stops the pain almost instantly for some reason. I can't eat solid foods, but salads with limited veggies. (NO TOMATOES). I can't eat burgers like I used to and have to watch what I eat AND drink. Gatorade is the only drink I can have because of the electrolytes. The only thing is that it makes me very dizzy and just want to lay down. Even laying down hurts though and it literally feels like I'm dying. This is the most unbearable pain known to man. Every time I go to the ICU they give me Dilaudid and NOT even that helps that's how painful it is. I pray this pain goes away fast and stays gone. I just want my normal life back. Eat healthy and DON'T drink alcohol by any means.

No greasy diet, watch portions, get on hands and knees low to floor with butt high. Take a epsom salt hot bath for twenty minutes.

So I learned nothing about how to reduce the pain, just spent 3 minutes watching someone toot his own horn. How useful.

I wish your office was in S. FL. The hospital basically is only a temporary solution for the onset of pancreatitis. Thanks for the info

Ketamine may hold some answers. I’m just now learning about central sensitization, and S-Ketamine’s affinity for the NMDA receptor, and the implications of finding a anesthetic that appears to be a non-competitive antagonist of this receptor.
