Wait..putting a finger in front of the flashlight doesn't stop the photons already in transit to the moon. These would take a few seconds to reach the moon and come back to earth for your eyes to receive. The shadow movement would therefore not be instantaneous

In my professional opinion, the shadow casted on the moon would not appear faster than the speed of light as blocking the output of photons doesn't terminate the photons already produced, so after blocking the torch some photons will still be travelling as if the torch was never blocked.

If this videos claims were correct we could transmit information via shadows at faster than light speed which is impossible

Easier saying, shadow is not faster than light, because shadow is absence of direct light.

I like how "But nothing can travel faster than the speed of light" is correct in both interpretations of this sentence, both the lack of something can "move" faster than light, and no thing can travel faster than the speed of light.

This is incorrect in a subtle way. You would not "see the shadow moving" instantly on the moon. There is a ~1.2 second delay for the light to get there. You would see a time delayed effect as the photons arrive. Your mental model breaks down because you don't normally see the speed of light. If you block a garden hose with your finger, you aren't amazed that the "shadow" moves around, because you're used to how water flows. Just think of light the same way.

Wouldn't the shadow move like shown in the animation about photons? It would be more like a rope or something that needs time to catch up, because the the light photons would not simply disappear, they'd need to reflect off the moon first. Same reason we can see into the past, such as stars and galaxies that don't exist anymore.
