Christopher Langan is an independent intellectual known for having the highest IQ in America - somewhere around 200, which is six standard deviations above the norm.

His story is fascinating. Chris is not working within the academy. Instead, he's splitting his time between ranching and philosophizing.

This interview covers a wide range of topics, including the problems of modern academia, the concept of IQ, and his attempt at a Theory of Everything entitled "The Cognitive-Theoretic Model of the Universe" - or the "CTMU".

Thanks for posting. One of the best langan interviews I've heard in a while, maybe ever.

Absolutely correct on the assessment of Academia. It's a political system completely dominated by one ideology in a sprint to the bottom.

His cognition of the people, system in place, and its intentions, is very clear and accurate in my view as well.

Hadn't checked for Langan recently, but was very pleased to be treated to such an interviewer: the interviewer was very intelligent and was able to get Langan to play with his ideas more to an audience which was conducive to learning :)

Universities aren’t complicated. They search for obedient scientists who serve corporate state power. Chomsky has been saying this for 50 years

The first man who found an objective and logical explanation to reality, the first man who can proudly say (and prove) he CANNOT be wrong. Thanks for your effort, Chris, and thanks for the interview, Logos Sogol.

Thanks for your information, it trigger new synaptics in my brain. I'm somewhat more interested to develop my thinking when I listen to you. Example how I will perceive reality from now on. Thousand thanks. Greetings from Sweden Regina.

He really hits academia on the head. Innovative intellectuals exist outside this system not within it.

CTMU talk starts at 28 minutes. Prior to that is just talk on academia, IQ, and history of langan
Great discussion though. Seems like Mr. Langan’s theory is as encompassing as Plato’s Good aka the One. If you read the Parmenides, and get half way in, there begins the dialectic of The One. The 8-9 hypothesis articulated actually account for every world view, theory of relativity, A & B theories of time, mereology, post modernism etc. it’s amazing to me.
For the host, I think the continuous substrate that is distributed or common to all as Chris puts it, may be the One as articulated in the 1st hypothesis.

Hi Chris my name is Andres, I am writing to you from South Florida. Thanks for your CTMU. You, Bruce Lipton and Tom Campbell have really inspired me and have remodeled my life. You have made sense of existence for me. I have a question for you. What are your thoughts with regards to MBT by Tom Campbell ? Thanks.

The thing about language is that words are sounds and printing are marks. The mind assigns a value and meaning to a sound or markings

Freedom from the restrictions and politics of academia would be a tremendous gift for someone of above average intelligence. Not being told what to think allows for a unique perspective and the freedom to pursue many perspectives.

I have just become recently acquainted with CTMU and I admittedly only have a very superficial comprehension of the theory - which probably amounts to no comprehension at all. However, my first thoughts and observations, having taken numerous philosophy courses, is that CTMU is a contemporary derivative of the modern Idealist "system philosophers" - in particular, Spinoza but yes, also Leibniz, Kant and Hegel. The modeling of "reality" after information processing systems - i.e., computers - manifests clear cultural-historical time in which this theory is composed. Back in 1700-1800s they talked in terms of substances mind or matter. Now we talk in terms of information processing. But it's just the same same. Qualities? Attributions? So 17th century.

Spinoza and Leibnitz (as well as Wittgenstein's Tractatus) all set forth "derivations of reality" and in the case of Hegel arrived at "the mind of God." It's not all that innovative. This isn't to say CTMU is wrong - though my suspicion is that it is about as "wrong" or "right" as much as Spinoza was "wrong" or "right." And to Langan's credit it would be no small matter to rub shoulders with these intellectual giants. Historians and philosophers still study and appreciate Spinoza and his contributions and maybe we will just as much appreciate and study Langan. Time will tell.

In Part 2 of an interview from 2007 Chris told about his time as a bouncer, and the interviewer asks at 5:31: `Why would you want to be in an environment where there`s violence?`.`What makes you think I WANTED to be in these environments, did I say that?` `I FELL into this line of work.So gere we have a guy With an IQ of around 200 and yet he STILL does`nt understand that we create Our own reality and I mean that quite LITERALY! Chris was`nt forced into that line of work and he did`nt FALL into it, it was a concious CHOICE!.There are actually no coincidences; but anyway, his own beliefs and attitudes brought him there, and yet he blames it on what? Coincidence, fate? I do`nt know but maybe he is more intelligent than intellectual. My IQ is only around 147 and not a Neuropsychologist like him, but at least I Understand that I am the creator of my own life and experience, even if it seems Things happen to you that you have no Control or influence over, it has in some way been attracted BY YOU;either through negative and/or positive attitudes, beliefs, imagination and repetitive thinking, and that Chris does`nt UNDERSTAND THAT IS UNBELIEVABLE!!! Once you understand that you are the creator of Your life, you can go about changing it and it starts at the mental Level but effort is a must and it can take some time before Your New beliefs and goals become materialized. Right? Have a good life.
