Perylene VIOLET and GREEN watercolours by Winsor & Newton | Sketchbook fruit painting!

Hi Guys!

In this video I'm testing out Winsor & Newton's perylene violet and perylene green watercolours from their professional range. I go through their properties and swatch them out and then use them in a realistic fruit study in my watercolour sketchbook. It's really useful to test out new watercolours to see what methods and techniques you can use them for as well as how they mix and interact with watercolours you already have -so I hope you enjoy the video and find it useful.

Please let me know if you have tried these colours before and what your opinion of them is -or perhaps you have used a different brand? Let me know in the comments section as I love to hear from you!

Thank you so much for watching. Have a great weekend 😊
Sarah

I like the background; it's a fun change! The skin on your kiwi looks amazing, and the highlights on the grapes are great!

Once I settle on a brand preference I plan to pick up all the perylenes.. something about that dusty yet jewel tone I find really attractive.

I like the darker background in the end. I don't mix watercolor with gouache often, but I should more to get more custom pastel colors. :)

That’s a lovely piece! I really love both colours (and Perylene Maroon...), and I will definitely try the mix with white gouache. I find the matte background is perfect to make the fruit shine, while still staying within the colour range.

I don't advise that you try to lift/scrub colors with soft brushes like that Black velvet. You'll just wear out your brush much quicker. A cheap synthetic brush like golden taklon is better for that purpose.

I really enjoy a video when the artist creates an actual artwork from the "tested" supplies! I do wonder at the re-wet-ability after the paint dry's in a pan. I know there are some who use W&N paints from the tube only. This depends upon the quality or line of paints, correct? I believe some W&N paints are NOT recommended for using from the dry state or is this mis - information? or a result of some paints going moldy? You created a fantastic picture and deviated from your reference to create true artwork!

Where/how do you get your inspiration for you paintings? I know you use PixelBay a lot, but do you start with an idea first? As usual, these results are gorgeous and I really appreciate your explanations! ♡
