Sozopol is a town on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast near Burgas and is one of the oldest Bulgarian towns, founded in the 7th century BC.
We visited out of season in October, taking a roughly 30-minute bus ride from Burgas. With almost all tourist activity halted, it almost felt as though we had the town to ourselves.
Our walking tour started at the Sozopol Marina. We walked from the western side of Sozopol all the way around to the east, viewing the old town in between. Many of the wooden houses there were built in the 18th and 19th centuries.
During the summer, Sozopol is popular for its beaches. Towards the end of our walking tour, we passed Sozopol Central Beach (Централен плаж Созопол). We concluded our walk through Sozopol at the Параклис "Света Параскева" church.
