Great comparison. I have used both on various shoots, and though I have found both to be similar sound quality (DJI requires some tweaks of the settings and a bit of extra work in post, but I've been able to get end result to sound nearly identical to Rode). For those with the DJI, make sure you turn of Low Cut Filter in your settings. Its on by default and is the reason the sound quality often sounds tinny. Turn it off will drastically improve the base on the audio and make it sound much closer to the Rode. It does sound like most of the DJI audio was recorded in this video with that setting turned on which may be why there is such a big quality difference between the two.

I typically go for the Rode system in most situations. Maybe I'm crazy but I actually find the app much easier/quicker to use than the touch screen on the DJI. May just be my fingers but the DJI touch screen has responsiveness issues and I find the control wheel to also be clunky. Opening the Rode app and seeing all the setting in one place takes me much less time overall. I also shoot mostly short films, and in this scenario, the Rode looks more "professional." I'm typically mic'ing actors and the boxy look of the Rode is more similar to the look of higher end mic packs. I've actually had talent make negative comments when using the DJI's due to the size and "cheap" look of them. I find these comments ridiculous but perception does make a difference, especially if the person being mic'ed is the person that hired you. At the end of the day, I would recommend the Rode to anyone who mostly shoots narrative content or wants the best quality sound for the price (though I'll say that the lavs that come with the Rode have front facing mics which makes them pretty useless for narrative content if you need to hide them under clothing. I recommend selling them and purchasing more traditional lavs for this use case).

I have the DJI Mic 2, abd man, I’m convinced something is up with yours. Mine sound better than this.

The rode still sounds better, but the DJI has something up with it that’s affecting its true capabilities.

I saw a reviewer say they think that there’s still some bugs in the firmware causing the Noise Cancellation to not completely cut off, and I think that may be the problem here.

Talk about stirring up the hornets nest, sounds like an Apple vs Android fanboy battle down in the comments. I think some are being too hard on Terry for making some reasonable and honest points about both mic systems. For me I appreciate the work he put into making the video. I own the Rode Pro and the DJI 2 and both are great for content creation style audio, both sound pretty good with a slight edge possibly going to Rode some of the time. But if great sound was really the goal none of us would be fooling around with wireless mics in the first place, wireless mics are probably never going to sound as good as other options. The Rode Pro does sound better but only slightly and in some scenarios - this has been the case in my testing. For me I'll grab my DJI 2 almost every time because of the ease of use, feature set and sound quality that is definitely good enough.

You're a real one for doing that distance test in the snow! Great comparison I'm leaning more towards the DJI.

I like the both very much. Where one lacks the other picks up the slack. The Rode definitely sounded better. Very full, clean, deep, professional sound and the Dji not as much. With that being said, with knowledgeable tweaking of the setting on both mic’s I think they might be very hard to tell apart. I purchased the Rode Wireless Pros because I also own a RodeCaster Pro 2 which the microphones will connect to it without needing the receiver which swayed me back to the Rode and I also really like how they seamlessly can transfer the audio recordings from the charging case to your computer. As well, the kit comes with two Rode Lavalier ll microphones which run $139 cdn each and are quality microphones which helped me make my decision.
What I do like about the DJI is the smaller size transmitter, small compact usbc and lightening connection from transmitter to camera or phone, the touch screen and the quality case with its magnetic contacts for tx’s as well as the connected range of the drone, I mean Dji transmitter which that is what Dji is known for and Rode is known for quality mic’s as others have said on here as well. Whichever one you decide to purchase, I think you will be happy as they are both very good wireless setups and it really will come down to which features you can’t live without that will determine your selection.

Note about EQing, you can't get rid of the coloration and reverb in your recordings by just using an EQ. VST Filters like DeRoom or Clear will be necessary with the DJI Mic 2.

Thanks for the thorough review. I've been constantly going back & forth between these two as someone who films from an iPhone 15 Pro. Extreme ease of use, the cordless USB-C connection, case logistics/aesthetics and the smaller size makes the DJI a much better fit. However, and this is a huge however, I think the file splitting is something that is a deal breaker for me as someone that often interviews others and frequently does long-form videos. I'm actually bummed out by this.

p.s. I'm surprised y'all got so much snow up there. We've [thankfully] had a pretty lame winter in Columbus.

Also to note. DJI 2 will bluetooth to iPhone. I love my rode wireless go ll system but I really don't want to have to build a contraption to get sound in the phone. So, I am def thinking of getting just a tx for live streaming etc from the phone.

Hello thanks for your review. Could you help me?
I heard that DJI mic has drift while recording internally. But I need to record using the camera for about 2 hours on lectures. From what I heard if I recorded directly to the camera there is no drift only when recorded internally on the transmitter.
Do you know something about that?

Hey, love your reviews! I got the dji mic 2, I'm really into the transparent design and touchscreen features. It looks cool and works like a charm, absolutely loving it!

If you want to use these systems with lav mics the rode is by far the better option. I would also love to see a test on when using a lav and having the pack mounted on someones back at like 6ft away, the DJI 1 set I had would have dropouts at 6-10ft when not in the line of sight, it was unusable when using a lav for simple interviews.

I was going to be all for DJI until your video. Included Lav's, storage access IS GENIUS. I could care less about gain levels if I'm in a decent area. Internal 32 bit float makes that possible, so as far as the receiver navigation. Rarely would I touch that because I'm going to use the 32 bit float internal recordings and sync it up. The AI noise reduction on the DJI is not great. The voice isolation in Davinci does this job very well. Rode sounds better overall anyways. Like i said, I was still ready to pull the trigger with DJI, but thanks to this video, my money will be going to Rode. Currently my job provides the Go II which overall I like, So thank you for making this video.

I bought both and am now returning the DJI. Rode's audio quality and locking ports is enough to keep me with them.

I have watched a lot of videos comparing the Rode and the DJI. This was the first time I had heard about Stop Lock – excellent video, thank you very much!

Why is the noise floor so high in this video? Did you set the gain wrong in the camera or?

First video of yours I've seen, great review man! I really appreciate that you switched between both mics throughout the whole video.
Thanks for the info!
