My Stance on Capped Data

I strongly urge all Verizon and AT&T customers file complaints with the BBB and their corporate offices. Metered Data is bad for the customer. Here is why, you can't accurately determine how much data a task will use. When you click a link there is no indication on how much data your phone will pull. When on LTE your phone will default to HD video and HQ streams. This is a problem.

I'm on Tmo & I have been for ten years, & I've got five lines. I couldn't be happier with my service & price. I use the unlimited data & I average 15mbps here in Canton Ohio. That's plenty for me, & even the areas I travel to in surrounding cities I still get good coverage. I see a drop in data occasionally in large buildings etc, but I love the security of unlimited. I never use wifi anymore, & I average about 9gb per month.

I agree on everything you said. Even throttling is wrong.

Your best bet is to do unless you've done it already is that if your on a family plan line that is NOT on unlimited data, use that line's upgrade, order the phone online and transfer that line's phone to yours since you will get it unactivated and put your old phone on that other line. My brother did that, he ordered the IPhone 5 for my sis, activated it on his line since he got it unactivated and gave my sis his older IPhone 4S, therefore keeping his unlimited data on the newer IPhone 5.

I'm actually thinking of going back to prepaid. Be giving up ability to access the internet just about anywhere but I hardly use it anyway because I'm afraid of going over. That $90 on prepaid would last me 4-6 months on voice and a few text.

Great video, not to mention that your monthly bill probably didn't reset when you got this phone, so your 3G usage was probably over 1GB when you got the phone and your normal usage of 4G pushed it over the edge.

Either way, this phone will cause a MAJOR issue with cell phone companies and force them to actually do what they're supposed to.

There's still areas in the U.S. where your only options are shity DSL that doesn't go above 10 down and 5 up or slow as ass dialup.

The problem is, some people view smartphones as less than computers, therefore it shouldn't use as much data as a regular PC. What they don't realize is while phones are small, they pack in a ton of processing power and are capable of pretty much everything PCs can do, at least computationally. So, yes, that also is a motivation for more data usage.

Data caps are stupid. There's no point to them, there shouldn't be a cap, period.

Both Verizon and AT&T are making very deliberate strategic decisions by capping their data. Its not to rip off their customers, its to push all high volume data users onto the competitors networks. They are left with customers willing to pay a premium price and not be data heavy users. Just like Progressive pushes higher risk individuals to competitors with their competitor pricing feature, Verizon and AT&T are trying to unload datahogs.

If heavy data usage is not the problem, then what is?

they should have a unlimited data plan because the iphone uses so much memory browsing and such

The only thing those data calculators help you with is if you're an online gamer who plays MMO's or PC Games like cod, BF3 and monitor your usage hourly on your home connection using a downloaded bandwidth meter to see how much data whatever game you play uses up. But Yes I agree the telephone companies should give you some sort of tool that tells you "x amount of data will be used when loading, streaming this." There is no reason why they couldn't have a system like that in place....

I agree with you on the bandwith should be unlimited I got unlimited because I was grandfathered in on my Droid razor max I normally use my phone and pull about 15 16 gigs a day if I tether I pull up words of 30 to 45 gigs a day yes I have Verizon and I believe you're right it's wrong for them to limit data just so they can milk more money out of you

Very good points. Data limits are bullshit. Its a good thing wifi is basically everywhere now because i'd be paying out the ass for overage charges every month. Im with AT&T btw.
