I was thinking about doing this so I’m glad you confirmed it can be done. I have this uneven slate and the normal application was going to be “A JOB”....getting in all of the cracks and crevices that it wasn’t supposed to... I knew it was going to be a pain in the ass wiping excess off. So Thank you!

I'm not a pro at it but have laid a little bit of it. Now on porous tile I use a sealer & finish coating on it days before grouting & I let it dry, then just before grouting it 'I will also use a grout release chemical on it while I start grouting it. It's best to use a grout bag when grouting porous tile or stone & use the corner of a sponge to smooth it in even & flatten it's grooves at the top without smearing it all over the whole area.. let it begin to harden just enough so to sponge it off leaving a slight haze that wipes off when it drys. But only if so you used grout release & sealer prior to this. Now if you're using a 12"X12" combination stone mixed w/various size stones & much more lines of grouting in the field other than just the outer edge, it might be easier to use a caulk gun to grout it as so not to contaminate the stones of more than need be. Also if you grout this stone like regular porcelain or other tile glazed or what have ya using a float dragging it across as normal.provided you treated it first with sealer & grout release it's possible to use after the initial clean up, & it's hardened a couple hours, to be possible to scrub it with a stiff scrub brush using a grout haze remover. Myself I am opposed to this kind of flooring or backsplash in a kitchen as looks great, but will catch & hold most the grit & crumbs, flour, sugar, salt, crushed cookies or whatever else It's not my recommendation! It's a food pantry for bugs. L.O.L

We don’t want the grout filling up the porous holes and cracks right? Which is why we’re doing in this way right?

Guess what, use a Wilton icing tip in corner of bag. They have different size round tips perfect for thin line grouting. 😄

It seems when the floor gets over 20' long tiling gets hard to maintain straight rows especially when the floor is sloped with a drain.

you know ..( not bashing just stating my opinion) Out of all these videos of people showing "DYI" folks "how to" I've yet to see someone who "ACTUALLY" does it for a living posting these vids ...
