Frank Rijkaard was the manager at Sparta Rotterdam (the oldest Dutch club) for the 2001/02 season. By the end of the season, the club got relegated under his leadership for the very first time in its history. Rijkaard left Sparta and went on to take the managerial position at Barcelona for the 2003/04 season. Despite a difficult start in his initial season at Camp Nou, Barca went on to achieve 2 league titles, 2 Super Cups, and 1 UCL. Similarly, Xabi Alonso became the Real Sociedad B manager in 2019. Under his leadership, the club achieved a comeback to the second division for the first time since the 1961/62 season, a historic feat indeed. But sadly, it all went in vain as Real Sociedad B got relegated from the second division, leading to Alonso's departure from the club. He joined Bayer Leverkusen amid the 2022/23 season and took the club from second bottom to 6th place, getting Europa League qualification. The following season, he created history at Leverkusen by ending Bayern Munich's monopoly. Kompany has done an incredible job at Burnley by getting them EPL qualified, though they got relegated the following season. His tenure has been mixed, with some praising him for playing beautiful football while others criticize him for being too stubborn with tactics and inefficient in signing good players. Kompany at Bayern will be interesting. We’ve seen it with Rijkaard and Alonso, maybe it’s Kompany’s turn next.

Claudio Ranieri was a notable example when it comes to "failed upwards" coach. In 2014, his tenure with the Greece national football team ended in a disaster due to his language problem, which included a humiliating loss over Faroe Islands. A year later, he was poached surprisingly by Leicester City, despite the club had almost got relegated from the Premier League the last season. And you know that the greatest underdog stories of all time in the sporting history happened.

Bayern didn't do as well under pep as they did with other coaches. People act like Pep's style is the only way to play football

Ever since Kompany joined : 11 Wins, 1 Draw.
As a Bayern fan, I also at first doubted him, but now I realize he might be better than Tuchel

I thought it was because every other manager in the world said "no".

Arsene Wenger got relegated with Nancy, immediately poached by Monaco and won the league Immediately

Honestly, what a lot of analysts miss is how Kompany steadied the boat both in Anderlecht and Burnley. In Anderlecht the team was struggling under new ownership while in Burnley they were relegated and had to fire one of the best managers they had.

The sketch of Kompany looks like Jaylen Brown more than Kompany himself.😂

Because Bayern's first 7 options, including the manager they already had at the time, didn't want to. So they kinda had to go for a more up and coming young manager, because nobody with somewhat more experience would burn his hands on them.

The best managers in the world are always the most experienced. All 3 European cup winners had managers in their 60s. Tactical knowledge and all the fancy stuff is cool but it doesn’t replace experience.

Nowadays the ONLY thing big clubs care about in a manager is if he's had coaching experience under Guardiola. Luis Enrique, Hansi Flick, Mikel Arteta, Xavi, Xabi Alonso, Eric Ten Haag, Vincent Kompany and now Enzo Maresca. Love him or hate him, Guardiola is the most influential manager of all time, along with Cruyff.

I understand that the Bayern Munich players (including Harry Kane) protested at the looming threat of Thomas Tuchel receiving the boot from the manager's position. It sounded like it was the Bayern Munich boardroom that had taken a dislike to Tuchel and didn't wish to see him remain in the job. A fractured dressing room? It didn't sound like it.
