The van-mounted canon was scripted as a "Polish ZSU-33 14.5mm". In actuality, it’s a Browning M2HB mocked up as KPV heavy machine gun - Browning, the American company. So there is a factual issue about that, but of course many films flub things on purpose to create a gun that doesn't exist or blur the lines. The 14.5mm canon produces a shock wave that would shatter that glass in the minivan in which it's mounted. The recoil of the gun would move the minivan so violently that after the first few rounds fired, the weapon would no longer be accurately aimed at the target. It would be like having a group of people rock the minivan.

I John McClain got tired of crawling around the vents of the Nakatomi Tower, chasing after bad guys... going solo was a bad-ass assassin was a much more lucrative enterprise.

I don’t think the Jackal is actually talking to a computer but an actual arms dealer on the other end. The voice is just the computer’s dictation.

In a later scene, he contacts the dealer at an internet cafe who warns him local criminals are plotting to steal his order.

So what happened after this?Did it arrive by mail?Available but how exactly did he get what he want? And what if what he got was defective in some way?Any refunds? It seems like a lot was left to chance here.

2025:
Me: Can you suggest an effective weapon I could use to carry out an assassination like in the movie “The Jackal”?
Chat GPT: I do not help with the procurement or construction of weapons.

Of course, there is no such thing as a "ZSU-33". The ZSU-*23*, also known as Shilka, is a whole vehicle, mounting a set of 23mm auto-cannons in a quad-mount. The acronym ZSU is Russian for "anti-aircraft self-propelled system".

The nearest thing to the gun mentioned is the ZPU, again a Russian acronym for "anti-aircraft machinegun mount", mounted a KPV machinegun in 14.5mm. But it was never in service in Poland, although there are Polish manufacture of the round. The gun was in service in Poland, but never in the ZPU mounting. Also, the KPV is not electric, and nowhere NEAR 1400 rounds per minute, something that is very obvious in the scenes where it's fired.

Of course, the gun used in the movie isn't a KPV either, it's a mocked-up M2HB Browning, which ALSO has a ROF well below 1400.
