I remembered it was Rukawa scoring a lot as usual to get the points for the comeback but Mitsui actually did the most points between that and the first time where they gained enough points to even be slightly ahead and then his miraculous 4 points play saved them.

To me it’s extra meaningful considering in the Kainan match they lost with a 2 points difference and Mitsui failing a three pointer and Sakuragi missing the pass to Akagi.
They all gave everything they got.

Mitsui played to the very end, so exhausted and yet shooting like he never did (like a possessed man)
Sakuragi pulled through with the injury and his fighting spirit reviving the team (it was actually okay for them to fall behind after proving they’re worth being there to all the audience but no they were there to win)
Akagi overcome his fear of not being good enough for his dream
Rukawa learned to pass the ball despite being the best player
Miyagi overcome his inferiority complex demonstrating he too (like Rukawa and Sawakita) can play among pros playing just as well as Fukatsu

Given the english translation saying "I knew this was the last", this was indeed the last chance of Akagi, Mitsui, Rukawa (to beat Japan's best), Sakuragi (due to back injury), and Miyagi (to be a part of this team), and Takehiko Inoue the Mangaka, to release that match in a movie format. Kudos.
