Electrical grounding is important because it provides a reference voltage level against which all other voltages in a system are established and measured.

When I atmosphere is charged with current from a storm., why is the atmosphere considered negative and the ground considered positive?

Also.. when wiring a battery, . Say from solar panels, . When making a lead from the negative side of the battery down to a bar in the ground.

A) should I also have a wire that goes up into the air, from a lead off that wire that goes to my - battery post??
B) also, . Hypothetically asking, . What would happen if a guy ran a lead off the positive end of a gel battery, up a post and ending with spread wire in the air?

C) same scenario as question B) except the positive battery end wise wired to the ground and the negitive battery end is up a wood pool and has a multi wire end??
