2024 Bennington 25Q - Mercury 500R - Top Speed Testing & Action

We had the opportunity to take out the first Bennington equipped with a Mercury 500R. We were very impressed by the performance of this engine. But, as we went over, there are other engines that we believe to be better suited as we stand now, considering the a solid tie-bar on twin engine applications is required.

Twin v10 400's is simply a better option for now. We have seen top speeds around 67mph with twin Mercury 450r's on a 30QX. We saw 62.8mph with twin v10 400's on a 28Q. But we preferred the low and mid range torque of the v10's for better acceleration and their ability to carry speed in and out of hard turns.

Knowing the maneuverability of a pontoon the twin 300 with separate controls makes more sense to me . Plus the added security of one engine fails .

Kudos for your honesty! I wonder if you can get a 500R sticker and slap it on a 450 LOL

Everything about this Bennington just screams 15 years dated. I really don't see from a styling cue why anyone would look anywhere other than Barletta. We own a Lusso and looking at this top of the line bennington it is really missing a ton when it comes to styling.

I have a Barletta 23 Lusso. Twin Biminis up, two people full fuel. I have a Verado 350. I get just over 50mph. HOWEVER twin 350's cost about the same as the single 500!. You CAN put joystick of twin 500's or 450's. Bad info. That tie bar is not needed, there is NO practical use for it. A Yamaha 450 is an anchor, useless. Again, bad info. Redundancy of two motors is not a valid argument. USUALLY if you have problem with a single motor it is electrical or fuel, and it affects both. Plus these new motors are very reliable. I have a Yamaha 300, a Yamaha 150 Jet, A mercury 400 Verado, and a 350 Verdo. NEVER had a problem. Joystick is a wast of 25k. Twin counter rotating motors will turn on a dime, save the money.
