He’s one of the best guitarists ever. So underrated. Also a real nice guy who comes out after the shows and meets with the fans (for free!😅). Thanks for this interview. Favorite band.

Totally underrated player. The solo from “Easter” is transcendent.

One of the most underrated and under appreciated guitar players ever. His solos on the albums with Fish are arguably the best solos in rock music till this day. I’m not familiar with his post-Fish work, but I suspect it’s as high quality.

Steve's guitar solos have always resonated with me since I first heard Marillion back in the late 80's! I grew up listening to Prog and my Brother turned me on to Hotel Hobbies and I was completely blown away. Never looked back!!!

Steve is undoubtedly one of the great guitarists of all time. Up there with Gilmour. I was a massive million fan as a teen. They were incredible. The comparison with genesis is telling though as after Gabriel left genesis both went on to achieve huge global success whereas with marillion the opposite occured proving together their sum was greater than the parts.

A truly original sounding guitar player. Beautiful way of creating sounds.

"millions of guitarists playing the same licks". Steve is one of the tastiest guitarists ever, and he couldn't have said it any better.

Met him about 30 years ago, very friendly guy, he signed a copy of a Marillion record I had just bought.

I love his guitar work on Easter after the grand Misplaced Childhood album. His tone and feeling on that were great.

This is a surprise moment, I didn't think Marillion were on your radar John, but thank you. First gig I ever went to was Marillion in 1986, was a phenomenal night. Saw them with Steve H in 1994, 1997 and then in 2001 (I think) My first drum clinic was also with their drummer Ian Moseley too. This band have a massive place in my upbringing!

I LOVE steve Rothery's playing. It's kinda sad that Marillion isn't so well known outside the UK or Europe really. If it weren't for Kayleigh, probably nobody in North America would have ever heard them.

Thanks for this interview John! I had only discovered Marillion about 2 years ago 🤔😎 I’m so enjoying their discography as well as their live Marillion Weekend shows!! Steve Hogarth was/is a one in a million find for the replacement of Fish 🎸🥁🎹🎤💥

Steve Rothery is my favorite guitarist. He is not demonstrative, he simply spreads enormous emotions in his game. He is incredible and is one of the only ones to give me such emotions
