My father (now 623) would sing this to us in the 15th century while we worked in the rhubarb fields.

Dad, at 94 woke this morning and ask me to research the song... I remember it from my childhood so lucky I found this version. Still love Mel Torme's sweet voice and glad to give Dad the rest of the lyrics.... ear worm worthy.

My mother (now 94) would sing this when we were kids in the 50-60's. we didn't get it but she would laugh and laugh at our confusion. Couple nights ago watching an old Kirk Douglas movie directed by Billy Wilder, "Ace in the Hole". A guy starts singing it, lol hadn't thought about it in decades, now can't get it outta my head :)

My Mother's favorite song from WW2 . Originally recorded in 1941 when my Mom was 17. We lost her tonight at the age of 93. She loved the " Velvet Fog ", Mel Torme and no one does this song better. Here's to you, Norma Jeanne - the best Mom anyone could ask for and luckily receive. I love you forever, " Twin B ".

This is the only song I remember my now 95 year old father singing in the car in the 50s and 60s. I had a hell of a time finding it.

Everyone's got these fancy reasons for looking up this song...I came because Bugs Bunny sang it, and it was rattling around my head this morning.

I know this song from the Ernest Borgnine character in From Here to Eternity. It's the song he was trying to bang out on the piano in the club scene w Sinatra.

One of those great male singers whose material often didn't appeal to me but I appreciated the voice.

I 1st heard it on Looney Tunes as a kid in the 60's, the cartoon was named "Horton hatches an Egg". Thought it was pretty funny as a kid, then years later my mom starts singing it at the kitchen table. "I'm like how do you know that song?" She's says "it's an old nonsense song from WW2", I thought to myself, I thought it was new in the 60's, she said it was nearly 20 yrs old when I heard it on the cartoon. Anyways, my Mom & I used to sing it for fun together, happy memories from a long time ago.

The music behind Mel sounds like the big band arrangement of Cherokee.
