I put my feet on the ground, throw my bike over my shoulder while running to maintain momentum, and jump to the side.

Me: "swerve bend that corner woah"

I admire the mind that came up with the models used in this demonstration.

Did I still watch? Yes

I’ve been trying to understand this fundamentally for months. This finally done it. You’re a god send

I was riding for almost a decade before I discovered this. I always just leaned, but at high speed turning the wheel the opposite way you wanna go gets you going that way aggressively and quickly. It upped my riding game tremendously.

This is how you steer even if you don't realize your doing it. When you go around a curve and lean. Your slightly pushing on the bars and counter steering.

This guy saved my ass one time back few years ago when I got my first rocket. I’d been watching his videos daily learning tips. Sure enough 3 weeks into riding in over cooked a turn, and instead of panic breaking, I just slowly and barely dragged my rear brake and counter steered the bike down onto the turn, (I thought for sure I was going to low side, but I’d rather risk a low side than to straighten out the turn and go off the outside of the corner. But I pushed forward on the inside bar and I went right around the curve like I was rosi son. Took my chicken strip right off that side of my tires lol. I looked like a pro rider my lean angle was so low when I went around that corner. But yeah his lessons on what to do saves my ass

Counter steering has saved my life multiple times. One of the best things for new riders to learn immediately. Thank you for putting this video out there! Share this with your new riding friends

😂😂😂 Classic Doc Hudson: "To go left, you need to steer right."

Omg I am so glad I do all of this stuff just on instinct: I rode a moped all throughout high school and that was like 20 years ago- muscle memory is CRAZY. Never ridden anything faster or anything with a bigger engine until my late 30’s.
I just passed my MSF course and literally had no idea what the instructor was trying to tell me about swerving, but you get me on a motorcycle and my body just does the right thing. Thank goodness.

Learned this at 15 years old when I attended the California Highway Patrol Motorcycle Course. It was very comprehensive and roughly 80% passed and the other 20% had to retake the course. It's a week long and they teach you everything you need to know. This is called COUNTER STEERING. In scientific terms, it's just controlling GYROSCOPIC FORCE (front wheel). Pushing the handlebars one way or the other is just LEVERAGE to control (wield) the strong force of the gyro. It's an amazing feeling, being in control of that force. You can MAKE a motorcycle do all kinds of "crazy" movements. It really comes in handy when avoiding things on the road AND while racing on a track.

Simple counter steering everyone...only difference is the rate at which you push. Swerving is a fast push to get the bike out of the way, so you need to push fast and hold, until you and the bike is clear.

Got 6 bikes.. It's called a counter steer and it's saved my tail several times over the years. Great vid.. Well done sir..

I've been doing this on a regular bicycle for years without thinking about it. It helps to lean quicker and smoother, providing instant weight transfer.

The countersteer is there to get the bike in the opposite direction to the path you're taking. If you want to turn right, you want your wheels to be to the left of the center of mass. This allows you to lean, and the short countersteer achieves just that.

It is mindblowing that once you learn what countersteer is, you realize how intuitive and natural it is… Took me awhile to understand before I started riding, but later I figured I already did that on my bicycle when I was a kid 😂 Most of the times unknowingly and unwillingly, but still 😅

Great explanation, safed my life a few times! As a driver you stay upright when doing this! Imagine yourself forcing your bike to swerve. In an emergency situation often you see more, your balance and coordination are better and it's easier to look where you have to go to get through the situation.

If people are scared to try it on their bikes, they can also do it on a bicycle. Way less intimidating. Used to do it all the time as a kid. I thought about that when they taught me at the MSF courses and it instantly clicked. It becomes such a natural thing once you understand the concept and how it feels.

I grew up riding all kinds of bicycles and never realized I used counter steering every day back then until I saw this video. Even after the hundreds of other motorcycle videos I’ve seen. Thank you
