This zoom-in-video shows the prominent Orion constellation with its colorful stars and the large H-II regions of Barnard’s Loop and leads us to the heart of the Great Orion Nebula M 42. The center glows in green color ionized by high levels of ultraviolet energy of the Trapezium Cluster. The great Orion Nebula is a place of star formation. Some marked spots located near the bright edge (left) are “protoplanetary discs” (proplyds) – basically embryonic planetary systems.

This photo-zoom based on five images taken with different optics by Sebastian Voltmer.

Used optics: 24 mm 1:1.4, 50 mm 1:1.7, 300 mm 1:5.6, C11 EdgeHD (also in Hyperstar mode), PlaneWave CDK 20” of the Peterberg Observatory

Music: "zoom-in" by Sebastian Voltmer
