Eating the Alphabet in New York City: I is For ___

I is for Italian Ice, the creamy NYC cousin of an Italian granita. Not many spots here make it the old school way anymore (fruit, water, nothing else), but at @lemonicekingofcorona at 2-02 108th St, Queens, NY 11368, they’re keeping the tradition alive. A really cool wild card flavor to try is the peanut butter, but my favorite flavor will always be the OG lemon.

Since I can't get to NY, guess I have to settle for popping a jar of PB into the freezer 🥴

Love Italian ice! In Philadelphia and parts of Pennsylvania it’s called “water ice”. I had to get used to that when I moved from NY, LOLOL. Loving this series, Beryl!!! Thank you.

Growing up with this I took it for granted. 😅 I went to high school in Utah, and one day I was really craving it, so I said I really wanted ices. No one knew what I was talking about... 😭 They asked "an ice pop?" "No, ices. Like ice cream, but

ok but the most important part is that their banana ACTUALLY tastes like banana and is somehow a nuclear yellow

I was eating a lemon ice from this place and bit down on a lemon seed. They don’t cut corners and it really shows!

Love peanut butter. My favorite is still strawberry with fresh mint leaves.

Authentic Sicilian granita is actually much more similar to “italian ice” than the standard watered-down slushie we’re used to!!!

Thanks for your recommendations, though I’m too far away to enjoy them. Never ever stop sharing them, as they are precious.

I used to drive past the Lemon Ice King everyday for work and never got a chance to try one. I need to make a trip out to Corona.

Italian Ice is also a big thing around Chicago. My two best recommendations are Gina's Italian ice (in many flavors) in Berwin, and Johnny's Italian Lemonade in Elmwood Park. 🤤😋“Johnny's” also holds the best mothaflipping Italian Beef I have ever tasted. Omg my mouth is watering just thinking of it I miss it so much! Get the dipped Italian beef with a side of Giardinira Hot peppers AND a side of Sweet Peppers, if you ever go. And be prepared to say your order quickly, 'coz that's one of the most efficient lines I've ever seen in a counter 😉 They are masterful! 😍 [P.S. If you make a video, please do mention me 😉 VanCamelCat aka Michael from Israel 😘]
