Difference is that a ghost note on a bass is usually played extra hard to still get enough volume. So the percussive effect is way more pronounced. Ghost note is kind of the wrong word. It's a muted note. Actual ghost notes like drummers play are not really done on bass.

I’m going to have to see if either of my Hammond clonewheel keyboards preserve this behavior. I always assumed that, since B3s aren’t velocity sensitive, there wasn’t anything more than “I’m playing a note” and “I’m not playing a note”. This is super cool. Like aftertouch for organs. …beforetouch?
