first, it depends on the led, for ex under 60 x 1W beacon is not recommended. second, I still prefer the halogen rotating (high profile) beacons exactly because it has a moving "mirror" and it makes the light stronger plus its visibility is more powerful even in bad conditions (sunshine).
nowdays they are not considered modern beacons but this is all ... I cannot see any other advantage. leds can be useful for complementary lights but the main beacons must be rotating halogen. this is what I can experiment in emergency use.

It depends on the LED, like the kinds that emergency vehicles use are very visible in all lighting conditions. But I’ve noticed that most amber caution LEDs such as this style, can be very difficult to see in bright, direct summer light. Whereas a rotating reflector, during the day time even if you can’t see the light itself, the sun may glint a bit off the reflector and still have some noticeability.

I prefer the halogen beacon in snow storms, more focused beam cuts through the snow better. While the led beacons have a tendency to reflect off the snow, making it more difficult to see where you are going.

Incandescent or Halogen is best for snow. It cuts through poor weather much better. I live in an area that gets regular white out conditions during winter. When everyone is doing 5 mph because you can’t see anything, I use a halogen rotating beacon, because I see people driving with LED ones, and I can’t even see it till I’m almost right on their bumper, just because the wavelength of LED bounces back too much. Plus the little bit of heat produced by the light will help to keep the beacon from getting covered in snow.

Rotating beacon will allways be my favorite

Halogen rotators really need to flash (“pop”) with rate range of 80-90 which produces a longer dwell time for each flash. In other words more bang for each flash, so to speak. In my view this would grab more attention. Just saying. lol

hello, so are you from New Zeland? ohhh, that's nice. i am from Austria and here we can use blue (dark blue - called "violet blue") for all emergency cars, plus dark red for the command cars of each emergency service, it can be police, ambulance or fire, it works the same. and as I know we have this same system in all neighbour countries.
how is it in your country?

What you forget to mention is yes the led may cast a "wider" beam of light but the Halogen Rotating Beacon carries Light further because it's a concentrated beam. Therefore it is visible from further away than the led.

My ECCO 5300 series halogen beacon is much brighter than the one depicted in this video, both day and night…..
