The Biggest IKEA in the World...Almost

Let's visit one of the biggest IKEA stores in the world, and the second one that was ever opened, back in 1965. In this video I explore IKEA Kungens Kurva in Stockholm.

Even though IKEA is a Swedish company, the biggest IKEA store isn't in Sweden - it's in Manilla, in the Philippines. And the second biggest IKEA is in South Korea. But the third biggest IKEA in the world, at 63 000 square meters, can be found in the southern part of Stockholm.

In this video I explore the store itself, and also tell you about the history of IKEA and its founder, Ingvar Kamprad. Ingvar Kamprad was at one time the fifth richest person in the world...but he was also one of the stingiest people in the world. Learn more about him and how he started IKEA back in the 1940s in this video.

As usual, I've also found interesting anecdotes to tell about IKEA. How their naming system works for example, and some interesting examples of products. I also dug into the sordid history of IKEA failures - everything from failures like selling pianos and hard-to-assemble couches, to when they wanted to introduce a compost...inside a couch...that you would have inside...

And let's not forget about IKEA food. There's more than Swedish meatballs to be found at IKEA stores - and there's actually quite a lot of variety depending on where in the world the IKEA store is located-

Finally, I also discuss how this IKEA got its name - IKEA Kungens Kurva. It all began with a royal car crash in 1946, when the current Swedish king ended up in the ditch...

Intersting and informative vid. Thanks for the explanation of the product names. When my Swedish friends visit us in Scotland and we go to our local IKEA they laugh at the product names and how we try and pronounce them.

My first encounter with IKEA was in the store in Richmond, BC, Canada in the 70's. That store has moved and expanded twice since then. Thanks for the video of IKEA in Sweden!

Cool vlog - love some of the weird naming conventions at IKEA! Wish I knew the Gnabbas trick when my children needed discipline 🤣🤣🤣
Thanks for sharing and can’t wait for the road trip vlogs to come😊

I appreciate Ikea having a miniature gävlebocken we can all enjoy burning in the comfort of our own homes, no matter what country we live in. I will also add that I would find it a very enjoyable video if you talked about snacks, food, and drinks from Sweden. Could be traditional or obscure things, or things someone must try or try to avoid. I have a friend in Gävle who I exchange care packages with and he always manages to send me the most disgusting candy he can find, I refuse to believe this is all Sweden has to offer 😅

Interesting tour. Not been to IKEA in the UK for a long time. They are always so busy and impossible to park :( Wish they'd open up more branches. Though I do get my meatball fix elsewhere. Yum 😋

Awesome video, you learn something new all the time, like how IKEAs name came to be I thought it was a family name. There is an IKEA about one hour from where I live and we have been many times, they definitely figured out how to get you to see the whole store, one way in and one way out not in the same places. When we were in Sweden we drove by the IKEA you were at, thank goodness we didn’t crash 😂. Stay safe till next time

I never new that I needed a rocking moose!

Great video Miro! I love IKEA, but having a FIAT 500 I have found myself quite limited on what I can buy in store - thank goodness that IKEA do home delivery service.

If you can, look up a song on YouTube called I fear IKEA by The Lancashire Hotspots 😁.

Have a great day ❤

Now that you've made an episode about IKEA, you must of course make one about the other big store that is soooo.... important to many Swedes: Gekås Ullared.

It almost seems like they must have people employed solely for naming their products. Perhaps they'll soon use AI for coming up with new names, and then they might end up with names of really tiny unknown places or weird old words depending on what they've fed the AI with. And even some AI hallucinations?
10:15 - Isn't that berry supposedly a luxury? But they sell it in Ikea? Hm... 🤔
Bearnaise sauce? Lol! That's just so 1980s! 😂

As usual, another brilliant video that made my face hurt from smiling. I have a friend who I did IKEA days with. Yes, a whole day. IKEA Lakeside, outside London. Then I moved north.

I call IKEA "Little Sweden" and I do food shopping there on a regular basis. (We also have Jysk, which you don't want to know about 😂 and I call "Little Denmark" but it's less exciting, no café and less interesting stuff, although they do really good pillows....sorry IKEA).

In the UK IKEA, surprise surprise....you get fish and chips (and mushy peas which they charge more for when there are no regular peas).

I love the kids section too and now mine are all grown and gone, I still buy cute stuff and have a box of things for when I have grandchildren. It's a good excuse to indulge. And there are rumblings of imminent little feet! 😊

I'm not on social media, but I would love to see some traditional crafts.

This was a lot of fun. We have two IKEAs in the Dallas/Fort Worth area in Texas...and almost had a third close by (that would have been near our NASCAR race track..."Yee-Haw!!!"). I have friends who have credit cards that get IKEA reward points.

So, Sweden has successfully invaded Texas (and won the hearts of many).

Of course, as tourists, we made our way to Kungens Kurva Ikea but it was way too big and we escaped the 6 rings of hell. We'll stick to our local store.

Kamprad argued that one shall not shop on an empty stomach, therefore the restaurants at IKEA.

About Kamprad being stingy. I saw and interview with Ingvar Kamprad some years before he died. He ate at one of his restaurants on camera and complained to the staff of the cantina for getting one less meatball than he had paid for.
