In the evenings I write myself a letter for the next day, saying ''goodmorning beautifull, today you are going to and ''don't forget to.'' Feels less bossy than a to do list. Works like a charm and is even a form of selfcare.

I realized recently that I see myself as a tidy person now! You really can get to the point where it’s easier! Now I am working on becoming an athletic person!

One thing that I love to do is to wipe down the whole kitchen in the morning after breakfast, not just the countertops where there's an obvious mess, but everything. I wipe the finger-printy areas on the front of the refrigerator, hit the corners that get messy on the cabinet doors, wipe off the countertops, the stove top and the front of the stove, the door to the dishwasher, the sinks. I feel it takes longer to write it down here than it does to do it. It takes just a few minutes since the kitchen's not that dirty because I do it everyday. I used to hate the big, overwhelming weekly kitchen cleanup. Now, my kitchen is clean all the time.

I first heard it as the "two-minute rule" - and it has significantly changed the tidiness of my home. I timed myself doing all sorts of things (making the bed, putting away dishes, loading dishes, folding laundry, picking up the cat bowls, etc.) and found that there were many things I could do or make a serious dent in - in 2 minutes or less. I also like the feel of "might as well".

While I’m not the tidiest, minimalist, or most organized person, I ALWAYS have this manic cleaning day before I leave for a vacation/trip. I cannot stand coming home from vacation to a messy home. And I always forget I did it so it’s a happy surprise when I get home, lol! Now if I kept better daily care of everything, I wouldn’t have that manic day, but even when I was better, I still did it. I think it’s vacation anxiety put to good use. 🤷‍♀️

I LOVE the tip to take the trash out daily! This is such a game changer because when it isn’t quite full, I run through the fridge, freezer, pantry, and/or junk drawer quickly to see what I can toss out!

Clutter attracts clutter is my takeaway from this video. It’s so true. Recently I decluttered my small kitchen counter area and now I have an overwhelming desire to keep it clean and organized despite the clutter in the rest of my apartment. Now to slowly expand the clutter free zone. 😊

16:25 I've worked many Front Desk and Night Auditor jobs in the hospitality industry over the years. We were constantly scanning public areas to pick up items for Lost-and-Found, to throw away, to return to housekeeping or the kitchen, and lots of small items randomly on the floors. My friends tease me. If I am walking down a hallway and see something on the floor, I'll usually pick it up and carry it down the hallway until we are passing a trash bin that I can toss it into. "Might as well, " is a habit that sticks with you once it truly becomes a habit. 😂

17:47 Your comments about outfits triggered a memory. Grandpa had amazing blue eyes. Blue was his favorite color. And Grandma liked him in blue. So, since he spent most of his retirement golfing and gardening, she bought multiples of blue trousers and blue shirts. He just reached in and grabbed them in the morning. She had an easier time with shopping and also batch laundry. Obviously, she purchased other clothes for him for events, dining out, church, etc. But those rows of blue in his closet were some of my earliest childhood memories. I laughed at people making a big deal about Steve Jobs always wearing black. Neener neener! My Grandpa did it first, and better. 😂😢

19:27 I often brain dump onto a notepad or into my bullet journal. It's a way to get rid of anything that might be stressing me out. I no longer have to think about it. I no longer have to worry about forgetting it. I've written it down. It will be there when I wake up. It has helped with falling asleep and getting restful sleep SOOOO much!

Over the years your laundry tips have been life-changers. I've also gotten rid of laundry baskets. I think they are a throwback to when laundry had to be hauled outside and hung on lines - you needed something to tote it in! But now we almost all use dryers, and putting laundry in a basket after drying as an extra step between drying and folding is ridiculous. I actually don't dry my clothing in the dryer - I hang it on a rack - and from there I hang it in the closet - but everything else - towels, sheets, socks and underwear, I fold directly from the dryer just as you were doing in the video. It's amazing how these tiny changes - that we just don't think of making until someone like you says, "hey, just try this - it makes more sense!" - can change things big time. By the way Dawn, you have always had a glowing countenance, but even MORE so lately... xo

Listing my house for sale has forced me to follow the tips that you are sharing today. My realtors staged my home. We removed 2 tall chests of drawers and a large ottoman—I’ll e keeping them, because I have more rooms to furnish in my new home. We Also declutterred the surfaces. The photographer took pics for the listing; but I also took my own. I tidy each night and make reference to those photos just before each showing. It’s now become a habit that I’ll continue to apply in my new home. Like you, bed making hasn’t been an issue for me since I transitioned from blankets to a duvet many years ago.
As for moving…I’m struggling to purge items—especially clothing—but I’m determined to do my best! Why pay to have things moved, when I don’t have to!
😂🤣😂*IT’S NOT FINE 😂🤣😂 You crack me up!
Thank you for sharing your fabulous tips and tricks.

I always have a sink of water ready when I'm preparing meals to clean as I go and I personally believe hand washing dishes is therapeutic especially if you have a scenic view like I do out the kitchen window. While waiting for family to come to table to eat often have time to clean pots, pans, etc.

I definitely enjoy your teaching Dawn, you are so gentle in your approach to decluttering and keeping things tidy. I never feel like I’m spoken down to or a feel like I’m a failure, when I still struggle at times with letting go. I will never ever thank you enough for everything you have done for me and countless others, you truly are a blessing 🥰

Dawn, you have literally changed my life. I’ve been following you for the last 5 or 6 years and my house has become so much easier to keep clean. I am not a minimalist but I try to stay on top off my clutter threshold. I have 3 young adult/teen children still at home so it is definitely challenging at times.
We had a family birthday dinner a couple days ago and I was able to host/shop/cook/clean, all pretty much by myself on the same day. In the past it would have taken me days to get ready and still not be to the level of preparedness I am now at today. My house can be company ready in 30 minutes or less. Thank you for your encouragement and teachings!

Actually I have found that setting up my to do list in the evening ( when I’m tired) helps me to make a bit more of a realistic to do list for what is reasonably possible for the next day .

These are really simple and helpful tips. Thank you Dawn. I have a motto of never handling the same thing twice. So, if there is clutter in the loungeroom, don't pick it up and put it in a temporary place. Just put it straight away. I'm not sure how you are feeling with all of the things you've gone through lately but you look really refreshed, so something is working for you. Your hair colour really makes your eyes pop too. Keep up the great work.

Along the same line of thought as the trash tip, I run the dishwasher at the end of the night even if it's only half full. Also, if you have babies rapidly outgrowing their clothes, I like to keep a basket by the changing table dedicated to collecting too-small clothes so that I can save them for future siblings or pass them on - this keeps the drawers filled with only wearable clothing.

My husband recently retired and I feel like he has taken on more household tasks like dishwashing and laundry. Although he doesn’t do things exactly like I would, I’ve learned to just appreciate his efforts. He’s a paper piler though and that drives me nuts. I’ve tried adding small baskets to wrangle the piles he creates but that doesn’t seem to work. One day I heard a someone say “just let him”. You have no idea how much taking on that motto has released my propensity toward pickiness. My relationship with my beloved is way more important than a perfectly tidy home so I’ve had to let some things go.
All that to say, I appreciate your tips Dawn, they’ve been a game changer in my household.

Folding directly out of dryer works great. No cold wrinkled clothes.
