Great video! I was using a 1650V3 and now a 2660V3 but finding the single threaded performance to be the main weakness. I've also been getting some blue screens related to the USB 3.1 Gen 1 port, on my motherboard they are using a desktop chipset and I believe this is what might be causing an issue. I will be soon getting a B550 board and Ryzen 5600G APU, that way I can edit in 4K and have enough PCIe slots of capture cards and sound cards. Passmark tells me that single thread performance will be much better, and even with just 6 cores, multithreaded performance very strong. I will miss the 64GB REG ECC RAM.

Not sure if it's just the video still processing, but there were noticable pops and crackles in the audio throughout the intro and ending. Otherwise amazing work and it's always appreciated how much effort you put into these.

X99 still rocks in price/performance. First of all both 2666v3 and 2696v3 can work with ddr3 which costs significantly cheaper. Last time I checked AliExpress, Samsung ECC reg 1866 ddr3 4x16gb will cost about 100$. 2666v3 cost cheaper that cpu coolers lol. There boards with 8-phase vrm from jginyue Titanium d3. Titanium d3 + 2666 + 64gb ddr3 cost 210usd. Can't beat that

I myself bought an X99 to use as KVM virtualization box. My X99-F8 worked perfectly for that, and I can even gaming with GPU pass-through - I have two GPUs. If I tried to do something similar with more modern platforms, I would be bankrupt. Now I have openSUSE Tumbleweed as my host OS and Windows 11 as one of the guests.

Have you ever tried to use these HP Z440 motherboards as alternative to Chinese boards?

Solid content. The audio issues are unfortunate, but the information is still good 👍
12th gen is looking pretty good and 13th gen will be even better. I hope people will FINALLY lower prices on 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th gen desktop parts.

Thanks for this information Mico. Very thorough and useful. I've upgraded from my x79 xeon for the 12400 running bclk overclocked on a b660g ASUS board. The speed in most tasks is amazing.

Thank you for another informative video. If all goes well and as planed I should have in a few months a Huananzhi X99 CH8, E5 2680 V4, 128GB DDR4 2133MHz RAM, Sapphire RX590, GTX 950, some NVME and SSD drives, 2x 28" and a 24" monitor. Running Proxmox as Server / Workstation and as many virtual machines I like. No games, no mining at all.

Another great video bro. Thanks for comparing cpu's workstation & gaming. Can you also compare using android emulators on future? Like how many instances can it run. Thanks

Hey Miyconst! I'm so glad I found your channel, awesome content, you deserve way more subscribers.

I have a question, if you don't mind answering: would the e5-2696V3 be better than the i7-5775C in general use applications and gaming (with turbo-boost unlock of course)?

I also would love to see you testing the i7-5775C and comparing it with the X99 platform xeons, since they are about the same age!

Thank you very much!

Nice comparison! Good old Xeons still hold up pretty well when it comes about professional usage. In gaming actually too, though Xeon gets train-smashed in most DX11 and older API levels games, as they don't utilize such amount of cores efficiently. In DX12 or Vulcan things are way better though. I paired E5-2697 v3 @ 3.8GHz with RX 6700 XT 12GB, and it fits perfectly even at FullHD as (DX12/Vulcan) games are still mostly GPU limited.

From my point of view, the only dealbreaker for buying newer platform is PCI-E Gen4, though I still wouldn't personally go for i5-12400 right now (if we talk about new parts), but take Ryzen 5 5600 (non-X variant), that is basically 5600X with lower clocks. Its pricing is pretty encouraging recently (at least here in Poland), and it overclocks pretty well, like X variant. Unfortunately B550 motherboards aren't cheap as B450 ones.

I have a ryzen 5 1600 rig with 16gb ddr4-3200 cl14 (2 x8GB) I built from new and used parts in Jan 2021. Running win 10 pro. I also have a used/new rig with xeon e5-2650 v2 with 16gb ddr-1333 ecc in quad channel. my ryzen 5 1600 rig is for gaming, my e5-2650 v2 rig is for offfice/work/web surfing. I end up using my xeon rig, running Linux Mint 19.3 more during the day than my ryzen rig. I enjoy both rigs.

Hi there, i would like to ask.
Should i get the (e5 1650 v2 + x79 mobo) combo which cost a total of $76 or should i get the (e5 2666 v3 + x99mobo) which cost a total of $96?
Im going to pair it with an rx 580, the only games i play is fortnite, gta 5, forza horizon 4 or 5 and maybe spiderman reamasterd.
Is it worth spending an extra $20? Are there any fps difference when pairing with a rx 580?

I have built myself a nice little budget (around 650 euros) gaming pc with a Huananzhi x99 f8, a turbo unlocked(thanks to your tutorial) E5 2666 v3, 32 gb of ddr4 2133, nvme ssd and a second hand rtx 2070 super and it handles most of the modern games pretty well as long as they are not too much relying on single core performance. Could you do, if you haven't yet, an E5 2666 v3 vs E5 2696 v3 in-game comparison? Thanks for all the work you put in making those videos. 👍

How about the game performance between Xeon E5-2666 V3 and Xeon E5-2696 V3? Because I m using 2698bv3 and I cannot get 100% usage on my graphic card, I wonder to know whether I should buy 2696
