Hi, I am an American still living and working in the U.S.. I am interested in retiring in Valencia Spain in 2024. Based on my research, the non-luctrative visa would best fit my situation. I obviously will be supporting myself and my family with my pension and investments from the U.S, and I will be paying for a private health insurance.

My question and concern is this.

Under Spain's income tax threshold, I will fall under the 45% income tax bracket. I am currently paying 24% income tax in the U.S..

I am very concerned that I will have to pay 45% of my retirement income from the U.S to Spain instead of the 24% under the U.S..

Is this true? I will have to pay 45% income tax in Spain on my income earned in the U.S.? Obviously I cannot accept this and this would prevent me from retiring in Spain in 2024.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the video, very interesting. I telephoned the Spanish tax office and was told that as a non-resident, I would only have to pay "wealth tax" if I had above 1 million euros in assets in Spain. Is that correct? or is it above 700, 000 euros? Thanks a lot.

Thank you for the information. It was so helpful. My husband and I are planning to retire in Spain in a couple of years and we'll have our retirement income from the US and will have to file taxes in the US so are you saying that because of the convention between the two countries we won't have to also file taxes in Spain?
