How this 'free energy' machine 'works', hiding video cuts

A viewer sent me a link to this video, suggesting I should build one out of wood. It wasn't obvious at first glance how it was faked, but closer examination revealed the editing tricks to make it look like it works.

A month after releasing my video, its gotten slightly more views than his. then he releases a video debunking free energy machines:

I thought, ok, he's finally coming clean, but no, he claims his works cause its different. Once again, relying on the same tricks I explained in this video, all done with cuts and compositing.

As a physics teacher I sometimes search deliberately for free-engergy-nonsense, just to show it to my students. When I first came across this, I didn't think of editing tricks, because I thought it would have been very easy to install something behind or in the flywheel. Thanks for doing the CD-debunking!

Just the wasted energy of those springs oscillating that much should make it obvious that the video is a scam.

This is pure pedantry, but I find it funny that they call it a V8, when the springs are clearly in a flat-eight configuration.

I got to play with a few perpetual motion machines, made from designs that have been in books for years. Always thought it would be interesting to see the motion of the device once set off. All of them quit spinning rather quickly. The cam arms and rolling marbles and whatnot actually dissipate energy rather than imparting it. The closest you can get to a PMM is a flywheel with a really smooth bearing.
