AMD partnered with SEGA and Creative Assembly on Total War: Shogun 2 through the AMD Gaming Evolved program to implement DirectX® 11 features into the game. Richard Gardner, the Lead Graphics Developer for the game discusses these features and how AMD effectively supported the Shogun 2 team.

This is such a great game. Truly an epic game! I'm so glad AMD teamed up with these guys to help make Shogun 2.

Nvida: Sunshafts, background and focus blur deph of field, tesselated water and flora, and possible volumetric effects.
Amd: Smoother 'tesselated' backgrounds and some rocks, softer shadows, background deph of field.

@NearDark87 I think shogun 2 was a great success and it has added much more customisability to the game. The abilities also change the gameplay and require people to know their enemies and be aware of the possible abilities at their disposal

Shogun 2 is the best Total War game since Shogun 1 :) THANKS A LOT FO THE GAME! Love it.

@POCHOCLO84 Were you not paying attention? Depth of Field, Terrain and Rock Tessellation, Soft Shadows (one of my favorite additions to the patch) and Anti-Aliasing. Those are all differences "for real in this game."

@PaperthinHymn No differences enough to change to dx11 at the expense of performance. It´s a strategy game, so the camera will be far away 90% of the time

Think they said somewhere that they had improved their engine to be used on quad core proseccors.

@FsimulatorX Well its kinda blurred, but in dx 9 its more like a clear black reflection of the body, trees and all the objects.

@NearDark87 They should have 3 speed modes for your units
walk run and sprint, the units are very slow in shogun, fastest unit is yari samurai with rapid advance

Shadows are very good but they need to implement the real shadowing . Etc. close shadows are more like DX9 ones and long shadows are very soft (blur). Those shadows of warriors are NOT reaalistic unlike DX9's
But i do support soft shadows, they look great. It's just not perfect. Maybe it already has the option i am speaking of...

This video is just an advertisement for AMD. If you actually look at the differences between the DX9 and the DX11 in this video, it's pretty minimal and I could easily play on DX9 without missing those extra little things.

I don't have any links but if you search some forums on orochi - CEG, you should find an executable. Just be careful where you download it from.

@POCHOCLO84 DX11 increases the performance of this game-- it does not decrease it. Perhaps you should get the patch and try it out before you critique it.

@whoa92341 nono look at your self standing and there is a shadow of you. Does your shadow look really blurd like they showed in the DX11 for the units or a bit sharp?

@NearDark87 yeah and when you try to flank with infantry they jog around the flank giving the enemy a long time to react
