The uk not adopting the euro had nothing to do with cultural identity - it was all to do with financial sense. The Bank of England is able to set its own interest rates based on the uk’s economic status at the time. Exactly why Spain, Italy, Ireland, Greece and Cyprus ended up in the sh*t during the financial crash.

Very well explained, this deserves way more views than 4.5k.

Here in Sweden we voted against the Euro already in 2001 and we will never give up our Swedish Crown. We got trough the crisis of 2008 and 2018

As nothing more than a citizen and not a economist or anything else the Euro is fantastic. Not having to change your money when visiting another country is insanely awesome.
I also don't get the national identity thing. Every country has their own Euro Designs so there is still a lot of national representation on the coins and bills.

The Danish krone is effectively Euro due to its soft peg and they managed to negotiate an opt-out

It's probably because the EU is not a country.

Every country should have its own national currency!

I think it's dumb with Denmark's case.
Sure you didn't agree to it when entering the EU or how the hell it was called back in 1973, but those exceptions just make no sense, just like it was with the UK.
Imagine the EU forms into a federal state like the US, you'll be forced to have at least two currencies.
Not good.
