This makes me think of our dog Marshal. he is a basset hound and we rescued him from the pound. He was a stray and was gonna be put down, he was so sick with a bad cold and a severe case of heartworms. I'm proud to say he's all better now and we love him so very much, how anyone could mistreat him I'll never know.
