The tip at the end "point your pole towards your bobber, real as fast as you can until you feel tension, AND THEN set the hook. Great advice. Instinct tells you to set the hook first.

Great debate and both camps are 'right'... hey, soft-bead guy here, and lately for kicks I've tried Berkley power eggs in place of a soft bead (pink) and works the same, so not just for steelhead, you can downsize this exact strategy for all kinds of trout. With the power eggs, as a bonus, as they come out of the jar connected in a string, you can rig up two or three and not worry about them sliding separately...

Thank you for the last part, I needed to hear that for fly bobber fishing, I noticed this myself today but you confirmed it 100% and finally I see the answer, I need to reel first and point towards the bobber before setting the hook, got it...I missed probably like 10 big fish at the minimum today on the river with a stonefly nymph, got two, but meh, so many bobber downs...where I even saw the size of the fish on the strike. What I was doing lol, was pulling up on the strikes, and indeed, it was just ruining the line of sight, so I was frustrated...so instead, reel down to tension in order to set yourself up for a successful set, rather than one that simply pull the bait away or out of the mouth of the fish.

Love the small bead below the bead stop idea , guaranties that the big bead is not sliding down to the hook … in a pinch a knot works fairly good not as … making sure the bead is pegged is really important .. don’t want it sliding down to the hook blocking it from hooking the fish ….
These Addicted guys are frikin great ( the entire group), don’t know if most people know it .. but much of the info these guys give us are guide secrets that many guide hold onto for themselves and surely aren’t shared with the general public … but the Addicts ..they get it, the more people that are catching fish when they go, the more fun they have, the more fish Addicts it makes …. Caught my first nice chrome Steele on a big 20 mm BnR soft bead and he hammered that big ol bead … keep fishing it till you get used to the feel and bite, takes practice .. but I’m drift fishing not bobber dogging …
Thanks man great info

you can have the bead locked in place with a peg you just have to go through the bead twice with the line before you peg it, but that tiny bead to stop the bigger bead is a nice trick too
