This is a large and very beautiful shopping mall, one of many I've seen on YouTube in Russia. IMO western retailers who left Russia did it on their own initiative. This is not what the sanctions target. Instead they target industry, the military, energy, and the finance sectors. There are a number of reasons for price inflation and reduced sales volume in Russia. This is almost entirely discretionary spending. In time reduced sales will force stores to close and then malls to close too for lack of renters. But for the time being life looks fairly normal.

Unless you do a financial comparative pre and post-sanctions what we see in a super tacky downscale mega shopping mall is not a measure of anything, much less of what is going on in a country choosing to deny the right of its neighbor to exist.

Thanks for this... I have a better idea of which brands to add to my boycott list. You need to get out of Russia before you are drafted to fight Putin's crazy war on Ukraine. Or better still, get rid of Putin.
