KIA Optima Sportswagon GT 245 hp (ENG) - Test Drive and Review

KIA Optima Sportswagon means an estate or a station wagon. Before you fall asleep, let me just add this is a GT version with 245 horsepower. Under normal circumstances you’re probably thinking about a 163 hp petrol Optima, or maybe a reasonable motorway miles munching 1.7 diesel 141 hp? But if you want a bit more from driving, GT is the way to go. From the beginning KIA Optima was a visually interesting car, but the new generation, especially the estate, stands out from the competition. Remember what Korean cars looked like a decade ago? There’s no shame parking one of these in your driveway now. Prices of the Optima estate start at 26 grand, the same as Mazda6 or Skoda Superb. Slightly cheaper, than Passat or the new Insignia. What does KIA have to charge so much?

Can KIA please bring this car to the states? I fcking LOVE my 2016 SXL sedan but this car is something else. You can have the money I don't have yet....just please....bring it to the USA.

You didn't mention company product confidence & that ridiculously long industry leading warranty. Obv's mainstream Euro's are aesthetically nicer & more driver focused but this would give you at least a decade or more of trouble free ownership - any VW or affiliate I wouldn't trust its ownership as far as I could throw a 14.7 billion dollar lie, nor would I personally want to support.

that looks even better than the Optima with the boot (saloon version).
Only about 10 years ago, estate cars looked terrible now you can have cars like the Astra Sports tourer

That fuel economy is hopeless in this day and age. A similarly powered (insert any competitor name) will surely do better.

Marek, you know, I'm watching your reviews quite a bit, 'cause I really like them. And in the reviews of the Korean cars (Hyundai and Kia) you mentioned few times the Flexi Steer system. You keep saying that it is basically dummy. I beg to differ. Personally, I have rather bad case of RMS - my wrists are really not that strong and ache often and a lot. The "Comfort" Flexi Steer setting of my Hyundai I30 was really a savior - the difference is felt very easily, if, of course, you have sensitive wrist joins, such as mine.

Not saying that your impression is wrong, but at least one user has gained a great deal from this feature.
