I think I love you. I needed a boost. I just lost my bin of compost worms to an unusually hot day and kind felt defeated. I thought about giving up any kind of gardening but you reminded me of where I started and how simple it could be. I have lost my health, my free time, my greenhouse was smashed by a fallen tree during a storm, and almost all of my plants perished. I stopped going outside. I have many containers full of old compost from the city from back when I had the health to garden, but it has dried out or been flooded or invaded by bugs... but you reminded me that I can go back to basics with what I've got. I can take that darn tree and use it for container hügelkulture and take back what it stole from me. I can refresh that compost by using it as the soil layer of a composting mound. I feel like I can maybe redeem myself and start again.
I couldn't sleep and YouTube brought me to you via a hummingbird fountain vid. Boy, am I glad I looked deeper into your channel.

How to make compost layers in Containers:
1. Branches, leaves, grass clippings
1. Paper shreds, toilet/ paper towel rolls
3. Kitchen scraps, coffee, egg shells
4. 1/4" cheap Potting Soil
Can either plant in it right away or wait til it breaks down.

My gosh you are just the inspiration I have needed. We are in the middle of converting so much of our yard into healthy soil, and while that is happening, this container gardening is so perfect for our family. I have already collected 10 nice containers from the thrift store for under $15. Drilled the drainage holes, and they are all filled with leaves and our homemade compost. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us, and for being a bright beacon of hope! ⭐️

I'm composting in place starting in May. 1st bed came up with bok choy, what, more than I could eat. Just did 2nd bed last week. Also have 3 large pots started going to put zucchini seeds in and then carrots. This is so much fun. Had so much parsley, made pesto and had that for dinner. My goodness, grew it, made it, ate it. Thanks to Robbie and Gary.

Son gave me a larger compost pail for mother's day. We have a compost bin in our yard. My garden is 100% container. You have inspired me to start using the bins I have collecting dust in the garage. Thanks.

Gophers/moles/voles are my biggest problem so growing in containers is perfect for me. And little to no weeding.

Robbie your videos are always so uplifting and inspiring. I decided to grow zucchini this year for the first time, in containers of course, after seeing how well they grow for you. They are thriving and I've just had my first harvest! Thank you for continuing to make these videos and for inspiring us all to eat what we grow!!

You have inspired me!! I have lots of tubs! I have 8 oak trees and endless acorns and leaves! I think I’m going to try. My sister bought a really nice raised garden thing I don’t have money for that. But this I can try. Maybe I could grow an avocado tree!! I would be thrilled!! Thank you!! You have such a nice and encouraging voice!! I love listening to to you!

I caught you talking about this a long time ago, and still haven't started doing it, but maybe I'll give it a try with one to start. Fall is coming now do I'll have to try growing something that grows in cold weather. I love your videos. You're so clear, and keep things so simple.

In California you can grow anything. Here in Tx is a bit more hit and miss with me.

OMG. This is exactly what I did just yesterday. I had to transplant my squash plants into the containers that I was going to let them grow in. I put wood chips in the bottom, added card broad, kitchen scraps, compost and potting mix. After I did it, I was second guessing myself if I should have done it that way. Thank you so much for sharing this.

Absolutely awesome Robbie. I do container gardening. Soil is expensive. This is my solution. I’ve taken all the notes on this video so I’ll be ready to start composting for soil.🎉🎉🎉 I’m glued to your channel. Tfs. Have a wonderful day.🤗

I remember the first time I saw the video you did in 2017. I didn’t see it for the first time until 2018. I have always composted since I started gardening. I loved your idea of composting in place. So much so that I started doing the same thing in 2019. The parts of my garden that are doing the best are the sections where I started composting in place, just dump everything right into the ground. I do cover with a layer of dirt to discourage critters from coming and digging in the middle of the night. I have dogs so I don’t have to worry about it during the day. But every time I go out to my garden, I think of you Robbie and your great idea! Much love, from Central Texas😊
