Loverboy ~ Working For The Weekend 1981 Extended Meow Mix

Показать описание
I first heard of Loverboy from their first single, "Turn Me Loose" a rockin' tightly wound tune with a catchy bass line and a rising synth line that defined the band's sound.
The band formed in 1979 Calgary, Alberta with Mike Reno, Paul Dean, Doug Johnson, Scott Smith and Matt Frenette as charter members. They chose their name from a vivid dream that Paul had about the band members and their girlfriends. They were going to the movies and the women were leafing through a magazine that had a Cover Girl advert. Dean saw it and thought "Cover Boy" which morphed into Loverboy in the dream. Reno agreed that the name was perfect and just in time to become the opening band for KISS's Vancouver, BC concert on November 19, 1979.
One would think that the labels would be all over them, but a number of American labels rejected them until Columbia/CBS Records Canada signed them and they hit the studio in March of 1980 that resulted in their first bona fide US hit "Turn Me Loose" a #35 Hot 100 Hit in March of 1981. It was a different story in their native Canada where the song sold one million copies over the summer.
For their second LP, they stayed with producer Bruce Fairburn and engineer Bob Rock and completed "Get Lucky" released in October, 1981 with "Working For The Weekend", "When It's Over" and "Lucky Ones" driving sales of the parent LP to #7 on the US Album chart selling over four million copies in the US.
They continued to chart with soundtrack singles like "Destruction" in "Metropolis" with Giorgio Moroder producing and "Heaven In Your Eyes" for Top Gun. Their final LP "Wildside" resulted in the band breaking up due to tensions between Dean and Reno in 1988.
Three years later, the band reunited for a good cause to help Brian MacLeod a musician facing a cancer diagnosis to raise funds for his medical bills. Loverboy realized how much fun they had together to do the concert and solidified their reunion with a tour in 1991 opening for Journey.
The fun continued until bassist Scott Smith died in a boating accident in 2000 at the age of 45. Ken Sinnaeve, ex Guess Who, Red Rider and Streetheart bassist was inducted into the band to replace him. In 2005 they celebrated 25 years of Loverboy and inducted into the Canadian Music Hall Of Fame in 2009.
Their latest single was "Stop The Rain" in 2017 and still tour today. Their music has been described as Arena Rock.
