1969 Ferrari Dino 246 GT - Become a Better Driver in Vintage Cars

Is the Dino 246 GT really a Ferrari? Is a faster car always better? Vintage cars with controversial history tend to come out on top. I learned to love the Dino as I grew older, but once I drove it I could not believe anyone ever questioned its greatness.

This is getting me through quarantine. You need your own motortrend channel show

I am really enjoying this series..the prices are silly..it’s a point where so much is sunk to buy them that people can’t afford to buy them...you are definitely on a roll doing these. ‘Drive the cars you want to drive”. Not many do..driving these older cars really gives context to modern cars

Happy Mother's day to all your moms! (and if you're part of the 3% of women who watch this channel and are also a mom)

Great video, the Dino you’re driving is an especially rare “L” series. They were the very early crossover models after the 206, and only around 94 were produced. The knock-off wheels and firewall mounted headrests are exclusive to that particular run. The doors and deck lid were also alloy. Very special!

Italian cars are always good fun. I own a Fiat Tipo 160 from the late 80s, my friend has a Alfa Romeo 145
Both small compact cars, but the sound they produce is amazing ! My car has really started to show it's age but I will do my best to keep her going because I always smile when I see that 8 000 rpm redline.

I have been infatuated with the Dino for over 30 years, I greatly regret not buying one when they were affordable. Congrats on your channel, you are doing a terrific job that is appreciated by many.

First time I ever tried driving stick was in my friend’s dad’s ‘64 Beetle. Only messed around with it for like a half hour, but boy that thing was hard! There’s definitely a tricky line to walk with classics between preserving and enjoying them, between taking care of them and stretching their legs. The relative lack of technology and electronics really recalibrates your mind and tests your abilities. What I wonder a lot is what the classics of the future will be and what we’ll view as vintage years and years from now...possible next video?

Great perspectives.

Your description of the safety of driving an old car sounds exactly like the reason I don't ride motorcycles. It doesn't matter how perfect and correct you are, it only takes one idiot texting or running a light, and it doesn't matter that you're right… you're dead.

I'd still drive an old car, though. They're still safer and more visible than a motorcycle.

(And I have driven some older vehicles. I learned stick on a '55 Jeep CJ. I owned a '74 Jeep Grand Wagoneer that no longer had seatbelts. I don't think I've ever driven an older _car_, though; I've only been a passenger. But you're right; knowing the quirks and tricks to your old vehicle is a blast. I miss my '74…)

I got to drive a 1973 246gts up the Stelvio Pass in Italy 23 years ago, and on into Switzerland. I’d always thought it was a sublime and stunning little sports car, but driving it was like a religious experience. The sound of that 6 cylinder is nothing short of mechanical music.
Ted, if you’ve never done the Stelvio Pass (and no, you don’t need an orange Miura like in “The Italian Job”), it’s well worth the trip. The views range from stunning to terrifying. And as a reward, when you get near the summit, there are several restaurants that will blow your mind (this is Italy after all) and some great stores to browse through.

I really enjoy these series, keep them up, Tedward!
And yes, I completely agree with your point of view.

The Dino was always one of my favorite Ferrari, with the 365 gtc4, 308 gt4, 550, 456 .... any old Ferrari

I'd really like to get a ride in the 246... There are a couple chairs and flares in the club here. Maybe if I sweet talk someone ;) I just love the sound of the six. The eights are different. I think a lot is those transfer gears. You are so right about the level of respect it takes with these cars. It is more like a dance than a fight. They have their ways and it takes a little getting to know them. Maybe someday you can make it out to our place and we can go for a few drives. That would be awesome. f

You’re so good at this👍😂. Your enthusiasm is so obvious and genuine and a thing that so many of us out here share.
Oh, and the Dino, it’s definitely top 5 most beautiful cars ever produced; probably top 3; actually, if pressed, I think it is THE most beautiful car ever produced👍

"we don't appreciate them until they skyrocket". I could bet money air cooled 911s was the next words out of your mouth lol. Those things created their own success story. Hope to own one some day.

Great review. Iain Tyrell (Tyrell Classic Cars) channel just reviewed the FIAT Dino Spider, same engine as the Ferrari Dino, sounds awesome.

Great video Tedward! A Dino? Kinda heard of them. After seeing the quick little shots of the car, I’m looking for that 7 minutes here on YouTube!

I had a 1967 Volvo Amazon, a wonderful car that I could get the vintage experience every day without it failing me, for not many pennies.

Can this thing drive on the highway because This car squeals like a supercharger and I’d love to see a video of a Highway drive and a 0-60 acceleration with this car.
