Never point 90° downwards, the heat rises and damages the plastic parts.

I have a 15€ heatgun with 2 settings and is proven reliable with excellent build quality, the expensive heatguns are a scam of snake oil and only worth it if they come with different heads and more settings.

Heatgun quality is a fickle pickle. I have some expensive ones that are extremely hot extremely quick with good fans but the heating elements will crack if left on for extended periods. I also have some cheapos that are better in some ways because they are inferior, hear me out. If i am doing alot of wires with shrink tubes, like a couple hundred at a time i like the cheap one since i can leave it on longer, even tho its not as hot as the expensive it more than does its job and ive never had a cheapo heating element fail yet, (only been using 3 months)
